How do you view the phrase "Survival of the Fittest" to us & our disease?

Not meant to depress anyone or make anyone more depressed or anything. Just want to see the view of others.

If we make ourselves as fit as possible, not only will we survive, we will thrive.

Hugs,

Pip

Good answer Pip

Do you see people who take meds, that are RXed to them and their every day life depends on the meds, as sickly or unhealthy?

No.  I see sick people.

Pip

Ok... but how about how "normal" people view us?

To them we are considered sick & unhealthy... even the insurance companies see us as unhealthy because of our disease.

I have heard one too many times by people that I am a very sick person. One of them was even a nurse at my RDs office. I gave her my list of meds, and she said I must be in a lot of pain and pretty sick to be on all these meds.

Hi Joonie, Yeah we are all sick or we wouldnt be on meds but we arent as sick as some folk out there who commit horrible crimes. I admit im sick but I am on meds to get better then i wont be sick no more.

As for fit, well there are ways to have  RA and be fit. Sensible diet, any exercise is good ( swimming is low impact). I know "normal" people who havent got a thing wrong with them who arent as fit as my RA swimming class. The state of mind improves with fitness which helps us define sickness. I like your answers (outlooks) Pip and Pin.
All I got to say is... I am glad I am not an animal...
otherwise I would be the odd one out.
LOL Joonie, very good point.

I work for a small team who deal with physically disabled children. Some can communicate, some cant, some are trapped inside twisted bodies with minds that dont work, and some that have minds that do work, some are in terrible pain and some arent. People who dont know these children think they are ill, however they are as they were made.

Point is, when they come to our centre for our annual family day and have fun and laugh (or for some stop screaming for the first time in a month) I thank my lucky stars I can do as much as I can because its so much more then they are capable of.

I take meds because my body is sick. My mind is strong and when I do any exercise my minds feels better... if my mind is happy then I am too.

What people who dont know me think is not of importance to me. That said even at my worst I'm not ready for a Big Pink Injection
How about this question...

Do you see people who take meds, that are RXed to them and their every day life depends on the meds, as sickly or unhealthy?

I do think about this subject from time to time.  100 years ago, I would not have survived my own birth.  I was wedged so tightly in my mother's pelvis it took two doctors to pull me out when they finally did the c-section after a 36-hour labor.  My mother and I would have both died, and my little sister would never have even been conceived.  Going one generation back, my mother would probably not have survived infancy, as she was only 3 pounds when she was born, and she had spina bifida.  She was in the hospital for over a month.

When I was a small child, I had strep throat repeatedly.  100 years ago, I would no doubt have died from scarlet fever.

100 years ago, my husband definitely would not have survived his heart attack.  And then how would I have been able to care for and support two infants, especially when I came down with RA a few years later?

It makes me wonder what will happen if there is some sort of global catastrophe that cripples the medical/pharmaceutical industry and supply chain.  So many people are alive today because of medical interventions that we all take for granted.
