mtx side effects | Arthritis Information

ok guys.  I took half my mtx last night.  My head hurts and I am nauseous.  I feel like I need to go back to bed but I can't.  I have to take my dogs for a walk.  They didn't get out yesterday and they are going banana bonkers.  I am just trying to psyche myself up to get out.  I also have to run errands and I feel so sick.

So those of you on mtx.  Does it ever get better?  I am only taking 10 mg. split in two doses and I still wake up - my skin looks gray and definitely feel "poisoned".  Is it an allergic reaction or is this normal.  Oy Vey  Another DAy of RA

When I started MTX, I had some prettty nasty side effects, mostly nausea. After about 4 months it was ok, not bad, then I doubled the MTX to 20 mg a week, and I'm back to  the side effects.

Some people swear by the injectable, others suggest taking it at night. I take mine in 2 doeses, mid morning, then dinner, and sleep at least an hour that day. I noticed my skin looks different too. I used to have just luminescent skin, now its dull and patchy.

It does get better, eventually.

Hey Rox,

Been taking MTX a long time and never had side effects that bad.  It sounds to me as if you are having a bad reaction.  I don't think gray skin and that poisoned feeling are on the list of normal sides.

I think I've got to go with Allen here Roxy. That doesn't really sound normal to me.

I've taken 22.5mg for a long time now and I've never had any problems other than being tired for a couple days after taking it.

It just might not be the drug for you.

personally, I think you should get off it.  It doesn't sound right to me and while I do get side affects, they aren't that bad.  Talk to your doc and make him understand, if possible, that he is making you take something you cannot tolerate....Oh geeeeeeesh.  I wonder if I should take it tonight?  I go to rd tomorrow.  This is just breaking my heart.  I want to start the Humira with the best combination possible.  I was more than willing to work my way through mtx side effects but I am so afraid I will have a reaction like before.  My body hurt so bad, my heart raced and got splotches all over me and broke out in a major sweat.  That was at 17.5.  I had to take five benadryl.

I guess I will decide tonight.  I am just feeling sicker this morning - the longer I am awake.  Hopefully it will let up.  I am not going anywhere feeling like this

I've only been taking MTX for approx 6 weeks now but I have never experienced side effects like that. I usually, like Lovie, feel more tired than usual but I do notice my skin colour and complextion are not as they usually are .. but not a real dramatic change either so hmmmmm. I would take it, like Lovie suggested, just so your RD can see what it definately does to you. Sounds like a good idea.  Sorry you're not feeling to well  It doesn't sound right to be grey looking. When i first started it it was called Rheumatrex and came in a bubble pack...the doctor gave me zofran for nausea...maybe you can get something like that from the doctor, but I'd be concerned about your skin color. After many years and now on 20mgs, I only have fatigue.  Noticed that since I started Humira I don't have acid reflux anymore either.  I swear.  I look 15 years older.  It is like I aged over night.  How depressing.  I just won't look in the mirror.Ok I feel better from the mtx.  I might brave it tonight.  My color came back in my skin, headache has eased up and nausea.  I am exhausted but that is normal, right?  Now I am bummed, my very short walk with my dog, he did all  the exercise swimming   When I take MTX on Friday, it doesn't make me tired til Sunday...you're reacting to it fast, but as we know everyone is different.  I'm finding that with Humira I have a lot more energy and a lot less pain. Hopefully it will work for you. We had friends over at our house Saturday, they couldn't believe that I was actually using a yard blower ...they said I look better and have more energy and jump. I seem to peter out a couple days before the next shot is due tho.  Could also be the darvocet making you tired? It wipes me out, but I'm weak on drugs.  Nope.  I havent taken darvocett since yesterday afternoon.  It is definitely the mtx.  Reminds me of the same feeling as before after I take it, not usually this quick but I was not feeling great anyhow.  I am going to take a darvocett now for hip and knee pain.  I can't wait to get on the Humira.  I just know it is going to work for me
