grrrr milk | Arthritis Information

I've been milked.  Been about 4 days of bliss.  I  have never felt so very very wonderful in years.

Then, we bought a pre-cooked whole chicken and didn't see the 2nd ingredient section that said contains milk powder.

So, I am sick, body swelled up like a balloon and i hurt.

I hate dairy.

I'm so sorry you feel bad, but jealous because...you KNOW, you actually know WHY.  We tried allergy testing for my daughter, to no avail, but everything she eats/drinks, I always wonder - could that be it?  But blindly trying to eliminate, when they say it can take months to make a difference, just seems too daunting.

Do you have any idea how long it will be until you feel better?  Do you do anything to detox?

Suzanne, you can run an elimination diet, which can be daunting but I can tell you it is SO worth it. If you even just spend 3-4 days on a very restricted diet, you will know if diet is affecting you.

For me, all food allergy testing came up blank. I was suffering from tons of food intolerances so the elimination diet is the cheapest way to find out about those. There is an IgG test which can uncover intolerances but it is not completely accurate and it is not covered by insurance. That is why I recommend food testing.

Yes it can take time. But the results are completely worth it.

Many people suggest just cutting out one group of foods at a time, but that doesn't always work because of hidden ingredients like bubbagump was saying.

For me, the elimination diet I tried was cooked sweet potatoes, carrots, celery, cod fish (I think canned wild salmon would be OK if you can't find cod fish), and canned peaches and pears in their own juice. In four days I felt like I had come out of a coma. After that it was just mad experimentation.

Alternatively you can try a real healing protocol like the one at http://www.pecanbread.com. I am doing it now and I am having some great results.

My blog talks about my diet experiences. The link is in my signature. HTH.

That's terrible.  I have no trouble with milk other than I hate it.  lol

Hope you feel better soon.

I was told by my allergist that it was an allergy but it didn't register on my tests.

He said he didn't know why it didn't, but he said it clearly was an allergy because I did what he said and did an elimination diet as stated here a couple posts up.

I had to take all dairy out of my diet and then brought it back.  It takes about 4-5hrs for my reaction to occur.  I get swellings from legs to throat (depends on what it wants to do), i also get hives from head to toe and asthma with stomach upset and gas.

So if you do an elimination diet, check the symptoms.  Also, it can take up to 24hrs for the reaction, the longer it takes the smaller the allergy is.  I am about lvl 1-2 because of how quick mines is.

I did an elimination diet on gluten too, found out that most bread products have dairy in them, so that was why break kills me.

So, i would start eliminating things you think are the worst and are the most common in foods like dairy.

I had to stop eating it for almost 2 weeks, then did the test.

Then, I did the same with bread and actually did ok.  My bread test was with a burger king whopper jr. because it has no dairy, or didn't when i tried it.

But, like my allergist said, you can have the allergy and not register in tests because it is a different type of reaction than the regular type. (i hope you understand).  There are sensitivities I guess you would call it.  But, if i eat it, he said i swell with inside hives or edema.

I wish great health for you all and hope you find what is causing the sickness.

I forgot to say that there isn't a detox for me.  I just eliminate it and know that i have about 4 days to get over one dairy attack.slbridges and bubbagump - I know you are parents.  I am trying to figure this out for my daughter, not myself.  I just don't think I would be able to tell, because it is hard to tell now anyway.

Hi Suzanne, it's always harder when we are trying to figure things our for our kids, not ourselves, isn't it. I know if it was me it would be easier - the uric acid elimination diet is really hard for a kid to follow - no choc, sweeties, refined sugars etc etc etc. Becky craved all the foods that we have been told form uric acid. She has a detox tool - manuka honey and organic cider vinegar drink, which is meant to eliminate the accumulated uric acid, then the non-acid forming diet reduces the inflammation.  She has been on it for a month, another 3 to go before we apparantly see a difference. But in the meantime she has had joint injections and will start the MTX soon.

In April, if she is still feeling good (her pain levels today are 2/10 as opposed to the 7/8/9 out of 10 she felt pre-injections 9 days ago), we will re-introduce something like chocolate, very gradually - to see if it has an adverse effect. Then we will know for certain.....

Hope your little one is doing well. What meds is she on at the moment?

Dee

Hi Bubba
So sorry you are in such a bad way with the dairy thing.
We can't take the risk of a mistake so if I am in any doubt whatsoever that there is even a tiny bit of dairy in anything I just avoid... Also I like to see the word "vegan" rather than "vegetarian" labelled on food because the one is completely free of any animal foodstuffs or derivatives.   In the UK lots of food now have allergy info onthe back saying things like "milk free, gluten free" but still not everything.
Anna
i did the elimination diet stuff and found out that i cant eat gluten. its great to know why i felt sooo awfull, but something is still bugging me. but loads better! rice and potatoes are my life lol

It is hard to find foods in the store because they can have a milk ingredient that may not be listed as milk, there are few, but they are there and effect me.

I got a list of the secret and popular words like whey and go through it when shopping.

Today i got doritos regular torilla chips they only have like 3 ingredients, found a couple cookies and pasta.  It isn't too hard to eliminate foods, you just have to take a long while reading the ingredient lists.  I want to get my daughter into lowering her milk because she has stomach problems with it.  So, i have to have some chips and cookies etc. to help her remember she is normal.

But, if you have a loved one who is old enough to talk and is sick, when you eliminate foods, then add them, you can ask how they feel at the end of the night.

I am easy to figure out.  It takes 4-5hrs for a reaction if it is a small amount, a large amount hurts my stomach right away.  But a tiny amount will break me out from head to toe in hives in four to five hours and sometimes feel like the flu.

All our diets should lower dairy, wheat and sugars anyway, they are very hard, especially on women's systems.

I wish you all well.

Wow. I'm so sorry you had a bad reaction to milk (and milk products!) There are so many different foods made with it. I feel for all of you and I couldn't even imagine trying to eliminate things.
