It would be a tremendous help for me to have help in showing that I am worth more than a mere "Cinderella" and that I have value.Mother has allowed me to remain here for the time being being against my sister's wishes.

Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully someone out there has an extra computer they want to get rid of.

If not, that is ok too.

I am so sorry to say I do not have an extra computer.  :(

Right now I am using a cheap one from walmart.  Less than 0 but it is doing the job.  Not fast by any means but I can still play.

I might be able to help you out, Jode....I'll get back to you tomorrow about it to let you know for sure.

Ok, thanks.....I would use the phone line but mother likes to keep that open. ANything is better than nothing.I have been watching the newspaper and they have some there too.

WAlmart...have to check that out.!

jode

I think I might have found one in the paper online........it will take me a bit to save the money but that is life right?

I  will have to check with family to see if I can get the cable placed in my name, it is rather expensive but then again cheaper than getting another phone line in....plus, they have been building so much around here that it is hard ot get a new phone line.....so the phone company states.

I keep tryin'! That is all I can do.

jode

is there a freecycle group in your area

nope...no recycle place for computers. Oh well......nevermind, I will find my way through this.

Temp jobs are scarce here too. I have to check about re educating myself, maybe at lesat get one of those coder jobs or something.

THanks anyway!

jode

So are you saying that you found a computer?

no kel, not found a computer but have been searching

if you have an extra klunker around we could work out a deal hopefully. you may pm me

jode

jode, join FREECYCLE.org

its through yahoo groups. in every area of the country people offer for FREE or state their wants for items that would otherwise go to the dump.

I have givien away 3 computers and 2 monitors in the past several years.

there is never  a fee for this.  you never know someone might be trading up and have a basic computer they need to let go.

so true kathy, thankd for the info. Lots of people upgrade I do know that.BAsic is me that is for certain and that is about all I can work with.

We have a new reigning champion in the competition for the world's cheapest desktop computer. Sears.com is now selling a Mirus-built, Linux-based desktop PC for 5. We know, we know -- what about the OLPC XO or the Wal-Mart Everex Green PC?" ) Well, friends, what makes the Sears Mirus PC cheaper, for a limited time anyway, is a 0 mail-in rebate, making it total out to 5, which is cheaper than the Green PC and cheaper than the XO.

The Intel Celeron-based system also comes with 1-gigabyte of memory, giving it significantly more horsepower than anything else out at this price point.

The Mirus is part of a larger trend towards low cost, low power, Linux-running systems (Linux is an open-source operating system that's generally more stable than Windows and Mac operating systems). The OLPC XO, the Asus Eee, the Green PC, and the upcoming Intel powered MIDs are all aimed at users who just need typical daily computer functions such as word processing, image and music management, and Web access. Linux already owns the server market (almost every Web site you visit is sitting on a Linux-based server), and is now beginning to make a mark on the low-cost PC market.

If things continue along this route, 2008 will be the year that Linux finally becomes a household word.
