Why IS It Every time... | Arthritis Information

Why is it every time I talk about getting a job or applying for a position, my RA acts up and then makes me think... "Glad I do not have someone depending on me to come into work today."

I was going to apply for the legal secretary job that was in town, but then I started doing bad and was sleeping alot. So, I missed that job.

But why is it every time I start talking or thinking I can do some kind of work... I start doing bad again?

I'm considering returning to work next Monday after being out since Dec. 7.

I'm scared.

I think I feel better but I get to rest here if I'm tired.

I am sorry... wanttobeRAfree.

I hope when you return to work you have less symptoms of RA and really are doing better. [QUOTE=joonie]

I am the customer service manager in a high graphic corrugated packaging plant.  It wouldn't sound like a stressful position but you would be amazed at how people think you live and die by a cardboard box.

Walmart for example will high pressure brokers that if they don't have the boxes on their floor by such and such an exact date/time they will pull all accounts. Meanwhile...sometimes machines breakdown, materials don't arrive on time, etc. etc.  Yet no flexibility will be shown.

I'm still planning on going back with a new attitude. Man- if you don't have your health, you don't have anything. This will be hard for a person like me who is used to being like Jump? How high would like?

My doctor will start weaning me down off drugs tomrrow and I'm just nervous that I'm pushing it too soon...

Which meds and for how long have you been on them? joonie39469.5874652778

Well I've been on Methotrexate & Prednisone since the last week of November in varying doses.

Methotrexate for the last 5 weeks @ 15MG per week and Prednisone @ 40 MG since Jan. 4.- that was what got me right- and that is what I know has to come down.....

Yep the pred does sound like it needs to come down. Do not be too surprised if you flare or feel a little worse after lowering the pred. It takes a few days for the body to get use to no so much pred.

Most times, if I am on a higher dose than my body needs, I do not notice much of a change, until I get pass the dose that my body "needs" then I can feel it!

Good Luck on the lowering the pred, and going back to work. [QUOTE=joonie]

Thanks- yeah I'm figuring I might feel a little worse for awhile. I have a good dr. though and I'm sure he'll know what to do. I talked to him on the phone last night and he said not to worry about things getting too bad.

My opinion, is don't get a job!!   RA reacts with stress, and jobs mean stress, particularly for people with children to raise at the same time and managing a chronic illness. ....   Don't do it.... don't ever think it , unless you are CURED.
Anna

Thanks Anna for the advice. I need to find something to do. Because this year no kids will be home thru the day not even hubby. It will just be me, Abi Kitty and the mice LMAO!!! Yeah... the cat has yet to learn that mice in the house are BAD and she needs to "play" with them.

Son gets to go to pre-school this year. He will ride the bus with daughter and get home the same time as daughter.

So that means I need something to do. And my houseis old & creepy and being home by myself is not my idea of a good day.

PLUS the extra income would be good for us.

joonie, I would guess that happens because of stress and anxiety.  Like anna said, I would want to be pretty sure my condition was stable before thinking about work.  In the meantime, maybe you could volunteer, take on a project or do something just a couple of hours a week to test yourself out.  At the very least, set some kind of schedule for yourself to make your day go by faster.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I hate it when it starts to look sooo "bright" and then "BAM" the "fog" rolls in and I am back second guessing if I can do anything anymore. *sigh*

I think that's some pretty horrible advice in my opinion.

MatthewFL - What is your opinion on it then?

I think a part time job with flexible hours would be great.

It would get you out in the world a bit and take your mind off your hurts. It would really be great if the job was fun or at least you worked with fun people. It would be great for you to have some income of your own.

Just make sure the job isn't too physical.

soo... working at wal-mart being a cashier is outta the question.

OMG!!! Wal-Mart has this banner up on the front of their building, right under the "Wal-Mart"....

It says.... Now Taking Application. Apply inside or online.

Yeah... everytime we see that... me & hubby say... they are only taking one application today.

Oh and they are Wal*art today.
