One more Question - Pain Meds | Arthritis Information

Do you take your pain meds even if you are not hurting as bad?

I ask because I am more then sure the Remicade will wear off before my infusion after this last loading dose. And I notice that when I took the Darvocet to help me with my pain, it did not do a very good job, but did a good job on knocking me out.

Anyone understand what I am getting at? I cannot say what I mean for some reason.

As one of my drs once said one of the purposes of pain meds is to knock you out so you don't notice the pain...but as I said that effct does go away with regular use

What if your pain is bearable, or not so bad, would you still take the pain meds, if you know later down the road the pain will be back or just wait until ya notice pain coming back like old times, and then start taking it?

That is probably a good question for my RD
Before the minocycline/minocin began working for me I took my tramadol on a regular schedule. Now I take them only as needed, which isn't very often.

If you're still experiencing pain you should take your pain meds. regularly so that you always have pain meds. in your system. Takes longer for the pain meds. to work if you let your body become depleted.

Well I guess all doctors are different.

Joonie, try not to become dependant on that stuff, you're showing the signs.

showing signs?

Man, I have not took a pain pill since my first Remicade infusion. That was over a month ago. I have been taking naproxen for my pain. But this pain in my neck/back/shoulders area is unbearable at times, and then compound it with my knees hurting and ribs hurting and elbows hurting and everything else hurting it is not a good thing.

I have all my Panlor DC, I still have 15 of my 30 darvacets I was given back in November, I still have 5 Lortab 10s out of 15. So... no I am not dependant on any pain meds.

Now if you say I am dependant on Prednisone... I would galdly tell you I am prednisone JUNKIE.

Pain meds no. I do not like to take them. To me pain meds are like the Electric cart at Wal-Mart.... I avoid at all possible until I have to give in.

absolutely

every morning, every night. If I forget, the pain gets very hard to manage and takes a couple days to get  down to its normal level.

Like with a migraine  you need to take pain meds at the first sign.

So, would a little bit of swelling be a first sign? Or would you wait or wait until you have the little aches that you get before the big pains hit?Cold filtering your pains medicine gets better results.

And that's the trueth.
