 Hi all!
My first time posting! Does anyone have problems w/ their feet? I have gained 60 plus lbs and have had enormous problems w/ra attacking my feet. Now I have a fracture of a metatarsal bone. I really believe it is not only the prednisone (5mg/plaquenil )but my extreme weight gain.  It all happened so fast.  My family does not understand so I don't even try to explain!

Thanks for listening!  I plan on joing WW tommorow 8/30 I feel so alone. Sorry to complain!

Hi there!  I am overweight and have huge problems with my feet.  if you haven't already been to a foot specialist, GO!  They will figure out what's wrong with your feet (other than RA) and help you with those problems and also make orthodics for you.  My orth's have helped more than I can ever explain!  Also:  Buy a new pair of walking shoes (lace up, good support) and wear them ALL the time.  Never take them off (except to sleep or shower lol!)

Hope that helps!

Thanks Butterfly for the encouragement! It's a relief that someone out there "gets it."  After  various podiatrists ( and hundreds of dollars) casting me for orthotics, I did finally find a Dr. that used an orthotic that has really helped me.  Do you or anyone out there have problems with balance?  I can't walk on grass or uneven surfaces w/o feeling like i will trip or fall.(this is w/ shoes) Before my RA I could walk anywhere!

You're right, I must keep my shoes on at all times!  My shoe of choice is the NB 1122 !! Can't live w/o it.  It keeps my foot stable. I hope i am allowed to say a shoe name on this site.
I didn't join WW today like I was was going to. My broken foot is the gas pedal foot and i didn't want to drive anymore!

Stay smiling and have a great week!
nene I wear Nike, but I have heard that NB are amazing.  My grandma and sister love theirs and would wear nothing else. My Nikes are doing good so far, but we'll see!You guys are keeping me on target! By reading all the postings I am so encouraged!  Today i drank 2.2 liters of H2o!  i can't believe it! Luckily the rest room was next to my class. lol(I am a substitute)

Wy weight is sky high like over 190... At least i am 6 ft tall but still I feel gross!! Since i have been drinking my H2o and taking lots of seasoned chicken for lunch, i really am starting to feel better.  I hope you are all feeling better.
My prayers are for all who have been affected by Katrina. i am so sad.

nike's are good shoes too!
I've had orthotics for about 3 years and they have helped a lot. About 3 mos ago I tried new balance with the roll bars and they are even better than the 0 orthotics. They keep feet from pronating when you walk. This has even helped my knee pain. What brand orthotics did you get?  Sometimes the Drs sent them to a private lab.  I will take any recommendations!  Yeah, definitly the NB

My foot doc took a plaster cast of my foot in a certain position, then sent the plaster cast to a special lab where they made the orthodic.  I wore it a couple hours each day.  I took it back many times to get it built up or shaved off, in places where it rubbed me, or in places where I had bunions starting to form.  They have made my feet prettier looking, since the bunions stopped growing, my feet went back to being alligned, and not having bones sticking out all over them etc.  It is great.

The only time I am not wearing them is on Sundays, I go to Church, so I wear sandals.

I had both an Orthopod and a Podiatrist tell me to get some Birkenstocks and wear them. Even though I think they are ugly,

Yes, no one seems to really understand except all of you on these boards!  You are all theeee best!!!!!

New Balance shoes are great for providing excellent support and they dont stretch out in the width over time like some other brands. You may notice alot of nurses wear them. I have found that when my toes are sore/swollen, my Crocs are the only things I can wear. They are probably not as orthopedically supportive as NB, but soooo comfy; and you can slip into them without bending over to fool with laces. I love them!

Before I was hit with RA and started high doses of Prednisone (I wasn't thin and did have a constant problem with weight) I had no trouble losing weight.  Prednisone is the troublemaker.  Not only does it blow you up to where you think you are going to explode, it also increases appetite so all you want to do is eat.  There is the double wammy.  It's a vicious cycle because the RA pain only increases with the extra weight.  The best we can do is talk to others and learn from others what the best way is to fight back.  Just carry on living the best you can and appreciate the good days.  If you are spiritual, just talk to God and pray.  You will find it really does help.  Also, laughter is the best medicine.  Find anything that makes you laugh and keep on laughing.

nene,

I have alot of problems with my feet also. Arthritis is very unforgiving. Try to stay positive. Don't worry about your weight. I would rather weigh 500 pounds and not be in such nagging pain, the weight will take care if itself.
