I'm sure you know where I'm going with this one. One more reason that we
all need to be careful about drug interactions and taking multiple CNS
depressants. I will be interested to hear his toxicology report. I think he may have just taken too many. They had several interviews of him over the recent months and in each one he talked about how he couldn't sleep more than a couple hours at a time. If that was true WHILE he was already on all those meds, I'm afraid he may have been self medicating and upping his dose w/o talking to his doctor. We all know how tempting and "easy" that can be sometimes.

Anyway, it makes sense in my head!
Terrible that such a young, handsome, talented person will no longer be with us. I too wonder what really happened to him. I really think this was accidental.  I check with my doc on everything we take.  I am interested to hear what the toxicology report says also.

Yes what a shame it is...he was such a great actor and so young.  It makes me wonder if anyone here knows of someone who has od'ed on pain medications because of their RA.  My brother-in-laws mother had it so bad.  She led a very miserable, painful life.  She died about 10 years ago from an overdose of pain medication. She was only 61.

Did you see Jack Nicholson talking about this????  It was on Inside Edition or ET, one of those.

First, they showed a reported telling him about the death.  He shakes his head, and says, "I warned him!" and moves away.

Later, at a press conference, he clarified what he meant.  He said he warned him about Ambien, like he is warning everybody, because he almost drove off a cliff on Ambien!

I mean, if Jack Nicholson is warning you about a drug.....

I feel so bad for the guy. I guess when you're in the public eye like that you take that chance, but they were talking about all his Rx meds like he was a drug addict. I thought to myself; "I've got more than half that stuff in my medicine cabinet right now".

Things get so over the top with these entertainment reporters too. They make it seem like something it's not.

Ambien can be a dangerous medication though when taken wrong. Hopefully Jack Nicholson's comments might bring some attention to that. I knew someone that ended up in rehab as Ambien was the main reason. It can make you do crazy stuff!

I feel this was a tragic loss, he was such a good actor, my heart goes out to his family and friends.

ON the self medicating, there are times, i have to admit, where I even scare myself, lol,, I've had the flu for 3 wks now, i've been taking nightquill and valium.. but often i take 75 mg of atarax, throw in some valium..or other combo's..

not getting sleep, like he was saying only 2 hrs a night, for a wk,

being bipolar, i understand that, when your body is exhausted, but your mind won't quit, i have to take sleep meds to Sleep! period.. but sometimes, my regular doses, do nothing for me.. So i do experiment...

O

I am always reading the fine print when i get a drug.  That's the "only" way i knew i couldn't take my ultram with my paxil.  Paxil papers said no to the ultram but my doctor didn't say anything about it.

So please please please read those papers that come with your medications.

I always read those papers that come with the meds.  I was on an antibiotic not too long ago and the sheet said do not take if you are on mtx!!!  I was like ok...what is up with my doc?  He knows I'm on mtx.  Turns out the sheet was talking about do not take with mtx if you are on the dosage for chemo!!!  On the dosage that we take...it is no biggie to take the antibiotic I was rx'd. I was very tempted to call the pharmacy to let them know they need to make things a little bit more clear on this one particular info sheet.

So, no matter what the sheets say, please call your doc if you have ANY questions at all about your meds and possible interactions.

Grammaskittles - we had a note from the pharmacy about amoxicllin and mtx when my daughter was on mtx.  The doctors said the same thing you were told - it was meant for chemo doses.  That sounded reasonable, until I saw the note from the pharmacy was SPECIFIC to my daughter's doses.

Our ped's office even consulted with a ped oncologist over it, because he had more experience with it.  "We've been doing it for years" was all he could offer.  That wasn't good enough for me - something (lawsuit?) had prompted these warnings, and we skipped the mtx dose until she finished the amoxicillin.
