Has anyone ever had a bad pain in their right side below your ribs?  I have off and on for the last few years.  It almost feels like a bad leg cramp but in my right side.  I get it like once or twice a month, but this time it is really bad...I had one yesterday and now today it is so sore I can barely stand to move.  I have mentioned this before to my drs. and they just blow it off.  I am starting to become concerned about it though because this is not normal.

Could it be like costochondritis maybe? Hmm..thanks for the suggestion gramma but the pain isnt in my chest...its low on the right side( below my ribs)...yesterday it cramped up so bad it brought me to my knees.  It does that about once a month or so and then for days afterwards my side is really sore...like the muscle in there.. ( i guess theres a muscle on the side of your stomach somewhere?)  I have no idea what it could be...anyonen have any idea?

Time, I have a simailar problem. Everytime I have gone off of my MTX for some reason or another, It hurts right around my rib cage. Almost feels like plurasey. I havn't had a chance to really talk to my doc about it. Sorry I guess I am not to much help.

I need to correct myself.  It is not always on the right side.  It has also been on my lower left side also. I want to say possibly close to where the ovaries would be.

You might have fibroid cysts. I have one of those and one day it hurt like you
are describing. Your doctor can do an ultrasound to find out.

do u still have your gall bladder

a syou can see there are several possibilities..call your doctor

buckeye39473.2240856482I had gallbladder attacks for years and years -- and no doctor could find out
the reason. It presented as a horrible pain in my right side under my ribs. I
was told it was anything and everything from chronic appendix to my
imagination. Funny that my imagination went away right after gall bladder
surgery.

The surgeon said they missed it because the usual presentation of
gallbladder disease is in someone who is "fair, fat and forty". I was young,
thin and fair.

Thanks for the fibroid cyst and gallbladder ideas.  I looked those up and it could be either.  I am going to my dr. on Monday and getting it checked out (and I won't take its nothing as an answer!) I appreciate the help!

On occasion I have been subjected to a similar type of "under the ribs" pain. This is my theory...when we put stress on our arms/legs, whether from exercise or from pain, the autonomic nervous system concentrates on keeping those areas well-supplied with blood.

Consequently, the diaphragm and upper intestine is, at least momentarily, deprived of blood and thus oxygen: either one or both "cramp" in response to this deprivation and the pain can be intense.

The same response is experienced in exercise as a "stitch in the side". It is painful, but not life-threatening. The pain is your bodies attempt to alert you to the situation. The _treatment_ is much the same as for runners: slow down, breath deeply, and walk slowly while stretching the upper body. Sometimes, if the pain last longer than a few minutes bending from the waist with hands on thighs and arching the back can help.

HOWEVER, pain that reoccurs needs to be investigated.

Wow Happ, that is something to think about.  It always happens to me shortly after doing weights or cardio and sometimes will happen in the middle of doing weights.  It happens really fast and takes my breath away...the sharp pain I had yesterday (while at the gym) lasted for about 30 seconds, then got less severe.  Now my right side is tender, as in it hurts to cough or move.  I am wearing a wrap around my stomach and that has helped.  Another possibility to consider... Thank you!

Hi Lori, doing weights and/or cardio is far beyond my current limitations, but I do know the "takes my breath away" explanation. These days that happens when I struggle to get out of bed and even on occasion out of a chair or rise out of the car.

Stitches happen! Happ

Idioted for a missing 't'.
