Food intolerances and pain | Arthritis Information

Hey y'all,

Just reading a book on chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia and came across this reference to food intolerances and pain.  I know there have been some posts here on this (I think a recent one about sugar), so thought I'd add the text from the book.

You know, a lot of people talk about their reactions to foods with RA, but I don't think I've ever really experienced it. (I really hope I never do.) The only connection I've made with food and the way I feel is when I have a crap-food binge. I just feel ucky, but who wouldn't after consuming a gazillion calories?

Now that dairy is gone, i deal with joint pain only (thank god), but i do know that if i eat a lot of sugar that i feel worse the next morning, my joints are more swollen and hurt a ton more.

I was thinking, i will tell my mom about this and test her out.  She has fibro but nothing else, she is about to start no-dairy, but my dad has celiac disease (step dad that raised me as his own) and they already are prepared for a wheat free diet.

Maybe she can feel better.

I hope your mom is feeling better soon.  Please let us know if the diet change help her out.  Lots of good info on food changes for fibro, including the fish oils and other antioxidizing foods.  Goal is to reduce all the possible causes for the fibro symptoms.

As for RA (since this is an RA forum), I think there is a lot to be said about the possibility of an overlap with food an inflammation as cytokines are an inflammatory agent.

P.S.  The book mentions a higher incidence of fibro for celiacs.  My husband is celiac, but doesn't have fibro (thank goodness!).

P.P.S.  MrsA -- if you're gonna do the junk food and pay for it in calories and ickiness, make sure it's the tastiest stuff you can get!! (Me, I go for dark chocolate and red wine and try to convince myself its all for the good antioxidants ... ya sure!)
