prednisone and can't stop eating | Arthritis Information

This is too freaky.

I was on 40 MGs for a month, lost 18 lbs. during my flare, ate anything I wanted and could not gain a pound.

No side effects.

Now last week I was reduced by 5 MG and Thursday I was taken down another 5. All of a sudden I gained six pounds overnight, my face is moony, I can't stop eating to save my life! I'm not even hungry but I just HAVE to have sweets.

After dinner I had an icecream sandwich, chex mix, a piece of chocolate candy and dried fruit. I just can't stop putting things in my mouth.

What gives?
That is the down side of pred. That is why people have a love-hate relationship with pred. One of them side effects.

The 6lbs over night is probably mostly fluid retention. I get that when my pred is reduced, it usually goes away a month or so after the reduce in pred.

Try not to abstain from sweets all together, other wise you will just drive yourself to eating more sweets. I know... I do it everytime, but once that craving is there, and you do not give into it... it gets worse and you eat more.

Good Luck!! ohhhhhhhh yeah the pred bod... sooo happy i'm off it.. i gained...40 lbs!!!! in a yr or 2...
its only been a couple months, since i've been off it, but i'm sooo Happy!!!
The cravings ARE insane, i just think its one of those things, if you're on it and it helps..
sigh, just acceptance... ok it sucks, but shrug there isn't much you can do about it... imo..
But why do you think it started now that I'm taking less? I guess maybe it's the length of time I have been taking them now.

I'm also feeling a little down because I am noticing I am getting more stiffness as I go down and I definitely want to get off of this stuff.

Also although I don't have joint pain- I am getting pain in my shins and the bone that runs from your wrist to your elbow about half way up. I am assuming my ankles and wrists are weak and it is somehow stressing these bones.

Does anyone else get that?
That's what happened to me, taking less the cravings are insane.  My doctor said I'm feeling better, which is why I have the cravings.  Before lowering, I was not in a good place physically.I take prednisone and ambien... been getting up DURING my sleep and eating! I ate 1/2 the container of icecream and didn't even remember it.... I'm also lactose intolerant, had the tummy ache for 2 days!Sometimes the different dosages cause different side effects in people.  Like me for instance...at 20-60mg of pred I am a shaky sweaty munching crabby being.  Below 20mg all of that goes away.  I get acne at below 20mg and nothing else.   My brother in law was taking Ambien and in the middle of the night my sister in law heard him open the front door and asked him what he was doing. He told her he was putting out the garbage but he put one of their decorative baskets on the porch. He then went on to "redecorate" the living room with her little animale statues- balancing them on top of lamps...He doesn't remember doing it!Have any of your doctor's offered you a "waterpill" I gained 20 pounds while on prednisone 10 daily then my BP started to go up so I was put on spironolactone 25  Bp went down and I lost the weight  . Now I am back to normal weight but still on the prednisone. I have been feeling pretty good , so for the last 2 weeks I have been walking the treadmill for 1-2 miles a day. I can't get over how much it has helped me  . healt wise I am not as still and mentally it has helped alot. I know its not easy I have satyed in pain for days on end but see if you can try exercise   how little it is  it still  makes a huge diff!OMG I have done so much of that stuff while taking ambien. The sleep eating one morning I woke up with a cookie in my hand.  Heaven help anyone who tried to take it out lol. My personal best is calling and talking to people and not rememebering. My daughter's seem to get the biggest kick out of this.

I'm actually on the same water pill but have been before this all started to help my BP pill.

Last night I had to go to bed so I could stop stuffing my face!
