No flu - YET | Arthritis Information

I was dx'd with RA in January of 2006.  Before the dx, I seemed to get every flu and bug my daughter or wife bought home. Then I was put on MTX and Enbrel, two immune-suppresant type drugs, and I have not had the flu since?  This seems counter-intuitive.  Has anyone else noticed this?

My wife is just getting over the worst flu I have ever seen.  She has never missed more than a day of work in 20 years and suddenly she's laid out for 4 straight days without moving.  I kept her full of gatorade and soup, but I tried to keep my distance. I did worry a little about getting this flu and I almost went off my Enbrel/MTX, but looking at my history, I have to wonder if  these drugs somehow lower our immune systems ability to attack ouselves, but raises our resiliancy to infection in other ways?

justoday2008-02-02 09:42:03I don't know but I'll tell ya this...I never get sick.  Maybe a cold every few years but aside of that?  nothing.  So I take both MTX and Enbrel too.  My husband and daughter both had very very bad colds about a month or so ago.  I was geared up to catch it myself, with the immune suppresants and all.  But nope.  Not even a sniffle.  So who knows??I only got the occasional sore throat/cold before being dx in dec 06 with ra and going onto sulpha. Since then I've had 2 horrible, antibiotic resistant sinus infections (presently waiting for surgery to have my sinuses scraped out), my eyes are permanently glassey looking, my cheeks are permanently red and flushed, my eyes feel like they are going to pop out and my jaw kills....... but my joints (this flare not withstanding), are feeling better.... go figure!
