OT - Kitty Cat Colds | Arthritis Information

Alright. I need some help.

My co-worker has a bengal kitty, Frankie. (its a girl - lol) She is not yet a year old, but she is over 6 months. She started out with just the sneezes, and it has progressed into goopy ears and goopy eyes.

Frankie's momma has given her all the meds and done all that the Vet has told her to......

But both of us think something's not right. Either the meds are just making her worse, because they're not the right ones, or the vet has missed something.

Now the ear thing COULD be the cause of it all. She's a bengal, so she looovveesss water. She takes showers with her mommy and daddy. LOL So her momma is going to start cleaning her ears out with cotten after every water encounter.

But what can she do for the goopy eyes and sneezes??? I've already told her to scrap the eye meds, because she says that every time she uses them, Frankie's eyes get worse. I told her to use a warm wet rag - one for each eye and the nose.

Anyone have any more tips???
Other than the warm rag, I dunno. Do cats have allergies?? Maybe there's something in the house that's getting to her like carpet smelly, detergent or a cleaner. Yeah, we did a little bit of web-searching today. Seems that kitties can get allergies. However, the green goopy eyes say that it's NOT an allergy. But I just don't know. I just feel bad for her, cause she's one of those cats that grows on you in under 30 seconds. She's awesome, and her mommy loves her sooooooooo much.Sounds like she needs to go back to the vet, asap... or to a different one.

I haven't had that problem, is she eating? playing?... or just sleeping a lot?

i"m a major cat lover , hearts,  lol, my youngest has really bad eye allergies, that i give her drops and just make sure i clean out her ears... and i need to dust more!!!

It could be allergies, and if she does have a cold, then yep, she needs to stay out of the shower and bath...

Allergies can happen yr round and its really tough, trying to figure out what it is. We have Santa Anna winds here and that always makes my cats eyes worse... a good cleaning, vacumming and dusting, could help and definately the warm water w/ a washcloth.. and what is she eating?

If she isn't eating or playing and isolating,... vet asap.... but still a good idea, to go and have her rechecked... where did they get her from .. a shelter .. or?

hope she feels better soon, poor kitty!
Whispered2008-02-03 15:50:42No, they got her from a breeder, who was quitting breeding.

She still plays and eats and poos like a normal little kitty!! I told her not to take her back to that vet, if nothing else to get a second opinion.

My thought about her getting goopier after the eye meds, is this : we can be allergic to meds, why can't kitties???

I told her if she stops playing or eating or even ACTS like she's going to stop, to take her to a vet ASAP.
do not get me started on breeders!!! arghhh  lol

ohh this is also something, i didn't know, but when you give eye meds, some of them, they can actually taste thru their mouth, isn't that weird?
Ew!!! yeah I believe it though!

A girl here at work, whenever she's had a saline IV, she can taste salt. Weird!!!
They need to see another vet and it could be little kitty's diet that is doing it.  Keep doing the warm wet rag, use one that has not been cleaned with bleach or  fabric softener on it.   Kitty  definately needs a second opinion .  memeYep, I think mommy is going to drop the eye meds, keep her out of the shower for a week or so, wipe her eyes and nose really good and clean her ears out. Pending her eating habits changing or something like that, we'll see if we can't fix her up ourselves. LoLthe problem tho darlin, w/. fixing her up yourself, is that she just might get worse..
I know, I always want to think I can wait and see If I can make changes, but she's really young and a new vet, would be better.... when cats get sick, they can go downhill really fast... i'd rather be safe then sorry... i wish you the best!
I know, but she's still running amuck!!! Wouldn't she be all lethargic and sickly, if she was truely SICK SICK? Hey Katie, I have to say I'm with Whispered. We have 2 cats of our own and we also foster for our local animal shelter. Cats' and especially kittens can go from 60mph to 0mph faster than you can blink. And self doctoring sometimes works but sometimes hurts more than it helps. I would suggest a new vet first thing tomorrow. After all, better safe than sorry, especially on a pure breed. Sorry.

Yeah, that thing about her being pure bred lingers in the back of my head too. They always seem to be more suseptable(sp??) to stuff.

I'll give her momma a call in the morning and see how she is, and tell her what you all said!
For the eyes,  get her to use a mixture of water & peroxide to wipe out the kitty's eyes. That is what we use to do back in the day when people did not take their pets to vets unless they were on the brink of dying. So... warm water & peroxide when she gets the green goopy eye stuff. It will clear it up. It use to when we had kittens that would get green eye stuff and closed shut with it.

Please get a second opinion. I have two cats :Ben and Jerry. Jerry started out just like that and within two days stopped eating and drinking. He ended up being hospitalized for over a week. Turns out that cats very commonly develop herpes. No..we can't get it from them. But, it looks and sounds just like a cold. Now, usually it will just run it's course and not get to serious. Sometimes, though, the inital infection can cause alot of problems-especially in the young ones. They stop eating and drinking. Really, it seems like a bad cold-but is isn't. Just like humans, they will have it for life. But, it isn't that severe when if flares. Ex: Jerry get very congested when I moved. Stress brought it on. After a week, he was fine. They can be running and playing and still be sick it needs to see another vet.  memeack, sorry joanie, but no way, would i put peroxide in a cats eyes!!!

do take her to the vet darlin, i also volunteered at an animal shelter and worked w/ the cats... and i know how the budget can be, but honestly anytime i've waited, its been for the worse of the cat... even tho i was trying to do the right thing.

The bills are soo much worse, when one waits!! and the cat too
hugs to the wee one!~
