OT-House and Autoimmune | Arthritis Information

Anybody watch House after the super bowl last night? It was a good one. Akways about autoimmune though!

They thought the patient had an autoimmune disease and they told her to go stand outside in the freezing cold weather for 5 minutes and that would supress her symptoms if it was autoimmune. (something about the inflamation)
Anyone know if this is true?? I think its probably something they made up for the show, but I thought it was interesting.
I know if I get cold it feels like my body shuts down!
Well Christina, I was really hoping someone that knows the answer to this would respond.  I sure don't know.  Interesting though.I saw it, but didn't get it either, mainly because don't people say the cold makes their RA worse?

I think on the show, they said if she went out in the severe cold, her immune system would have to switch to fighting the cold temp.  So if it was autoimmune, her inflammation would go down when her immune system stopped attacking and went to work attacking the cold?  Sounds reasonable.  Then didn't she have a seizure or something, so they were able to rule out autoimmune anyway?

And Wilson is dating Cold-Hearted Bitch!
cold is supposed to help inflammation go away (so i have read in the past) but my body can't handle cold, the amount of pain i get from being cold is just horrible.  I don't swell from the cold, i do swell from the heat, but the pain from the cold is just too much.I liked the commercial they showed during the show with House and all the vicodin and he opens a book about Lupus and he has pills stashed inside..he tells Wilson "it's never Lupus!" Last night on the show they called it SLE...I guess to change it up some..
and yeah..wow..."cold hearted bitch"..that made my stomach turn! Did you see the preview for tuesday night? House tells Wilson "your sleeping with me!" HA!
My DVR only recorded 36 minutes of House and my husband did wait and start it after the Superbowl.

Can anyone tell what Kate had?   Mine shut off just as she clutched herself in agony.

I was left up in the air.

If anyone can fill me in I would appreciate it.

Remember she said she didn't need to take her socks off?  It was cold and there weren't any lymph nodes there?  She actually had a broken toe, and it was so cold/numb she didn't notice.  The break was making marrow spread throughout her body, and so everything was fighting that.  The mechanic set the break and she was well, like, immediately.

I loved the pill popping commercial.  But isn't Vicodin a brand name?  Do you think they pay for that mention?  Doesn't seem like they would allow it to be used...under those circumstances?  What's up with that?

Suzanne2008-02-04 15:36:50Thanks so much for the info.  I would have really been wondering what happened. That was a good episode. I can't believe who Wilson is dating!!!

I think the cold is extreme cold. Not what we consider cold. Cold we are around make us hurt. Her cold would make her numb pretty much at once.Well ironically, I just saw my Rheumatologist last week, and I told him I feel generaly much better in the winter than the summer. The heat makes me more tired, more swelling of course, and generally more flares. So for me, the cold thing kidn of made sense, however I am sure it was a bit of a dramatization.. anyway love that show.I am the oposite Jena.  I live in a humid area and cringe when the winter comes, i can't handle the cold and wear long johns.

In the summer, i have no problem with the heat and humidity.
I just thought that was interesting. Ilove that show so much! And yes I can't believe Wilson is dating her!! I didn't like her character and I thought she was gone.  It was funny in the previews, House was describing her and he said something to the effect of "oh my god you are dating me!"  Thought that was pretty funny. I can't wait for tomorrow's episode.

I always crack up when I watch House, because early in the show they almost always think the patient has some type of vasculitis. Every time this happens, I yell "It's NOT vasculitis!" and later on, they decide it's not vasculitis. I think it's because vasculitic diseases have cool sounding names but about all you can do is pump the person full of steroids, so that would not make a very exciting TV show. My family thinks I am a little insane.

Did you know in real life Hugh Laurie's dad is a doctor?  (Maybe 'was', don't know if he is still living). i caught the trachea deviation before they said it :)

im worse in summer too and better in winter.........its getting to be more just bad all te time lol but when i was younger like 10 i didnt have to take my meds in the winter! My husband thinks they say sarcoidosis a lot.  Ive thought it was sacroidosis before...it wasnt and they never mentioned it but i thought it was. My dad had it...cardiac sarcoidosis.
