OT**PineSol and the dog toots** | Arthritis Information

So last week my dh with his broken leg decided to mop the floors. He used 2/3 of a 48 oz bottle of Pine sol and nearly killed me! I had to go to the doctor for inhalation burns to my nose and throat..and had to get albuterol to open up my lungs. My chest was killing me it was so tight. Then apparently being succeptable to resp. illness, my son very kindly gave me a URI. I finally started feeling better sunday even though the cough and some sinus drainage are still hanging around. Word to the wise...husbands need close supervision when taking on household chores they know nothing about!

On another unrelated subject, my boxer is having the mose haneous gas I have ever known a dog to have. For the past hour she has been laying there tooting...I am not sure how she could have so much air in her body..it is sort of disturbing. She only gets dog food...so I dont know what brought this on..but it was funny at first...now, just weird. She even looks a little suprised! Poor doggie.
Hi Crunchy, been wondering where you've been.  I mixed Comet and another cleaner together to clean the shower and tub and had the same exact thing happen.  I thought I was going to die before I got to the ER.   Some cleaning products you can't mix.  I'm just glad it was pre RA.  Hope you're feeling better, apparently your dog isn't!!  POOR POOCH.  LindyHmmmm....I swear I was just thinking today I need some comet for my shower...maybe I ought to pay someone else to do it! LOL.My boxer has the same problem.  I have been told they have very sensitive digestive systems.  I can only feed mine plain old Purina Dog Chow, because it is a very "light" dog food.  Anytime she has something that is high in protein, her "emissions" are unbearable.

I didn't know you had a boxer - I thought you were just a small dog owner!
Hillhoney2008-02-06 22:45:20So sorry to hear about what happened.  I can't be around pinesol at all.  I learned in a weird way.

Peppers Pizza place opened up and we sit down to eat and next thing i knew i couldn't breathe and my husband rand to the car to get my inhaler.

So we waited a while to let the new building air out cuz i have problems with some new building chemicals.  But, when we got there the 2nd time, they spilled the cleaner in the hall and it was so bad that I instantly stopped breathing and was rushed away.

It's not just pinesol, it is anything with pine tree oil in it.  I was reading that pine tree oil is an allergy, so i just put another thing on my list.

If you have that allergy, it is almost easy to stay away from it, just have to watch out for shopping areas that use it.  Most use an orange or lemon type so you will be safe most of the time.

As for dogs, my dog does it too.  She is so gassy that it's just too funny.  She is just fine and only eats dog food (except that roll that got away on thanksgiving), but they say she is just fine, shes just gassy.

Gotta love it when our pets act like humans in all ways :)
Five hours later and she is still at it! It has settled down some though.
About the pine oil allergy, that would make sense....I live in south east texas where there is an abundance of pine trees. I dont have allergies in the way of sinus problems or anything, at least not to pollen or trees, but I have always had this thing where if I walk outside barefoot and step on pine needles I have to wash my feet with soap and water to relieve the itching. I never thought about the pine oil but it all makes sense to me now. My husband was right in the middle of the cleaner and never had any problems and my son who is asthmatic wasnt bothered by it either. I know my mom used pinesol when I was a kid, but I am sure it was a greatly diluted amount and I was probably outside playing or at school most of the time when she was actually working with it.
Hm....now it all makes sense. Thanks!
I have parrots and I was told that I can't use any cleansers or anything scented with artificial pine. It can kill the birds. Now you know why you got so sick. In concentrated form, it's harmful. Weird how it didn't bother anyone else though. Must be an allergy as well.
The girl I work with has a boxer and she said she smells like A$$. But she is such a sweet dog!!
I hope you both are feeling better soon!
