x-rays | Arthritis Information

Hi,

I just wanted to mention the fact that I see lots of you talking about x-rays, and the fact that your joints aren't bad enough for replacement.  Well, I just wanted to say that my ortho told me that people with RA will have x-rays that don't show how bad the joints really are.  Before my first joint replacement surgery they thought my joint wasn't too bad and decided to just scope it and clean it up a bit.  Well once he got in there, he realized how bad it really was.  He told me then that it would eventually need replaced.  Still my joints don't look bad on the x-rays but when he goes in he says my bones look like dogs have been chewing on them

I hope everyone has a pain free day.

I just went for x-rays yesterday.  My doctor says that we caught my RA before it got bad enough to leave a mark on my joints.  (about half a year of pain before I went to the doc's/got testing/got meds.)  This doesn't mean that in the future my joints could get bad, it just means that currently, they look ok.  I haven't got the results from my x-rays from yesterday though.  I am aftraid of what he has to say about my left ankle and my right wrist and pointer finger knuckle.  They hurt and are swollen, even on my good days.

Hey Linda,  I also had bone scan and mri's.  That would show erosion - right?

Roxy,

I had a bone scan and it did not show any damage either.  I think the MRI shows more but not the true extent of the damage.  If you are having constant pain in one joint, I would ask to see an orthopedic surgeon, that's what helped me.  I wish you luck and less pain.

Linda

I had xrays on hands yesterday.Dr. said they had some degeneration that was normal for my age.
