Exposure to mercury? | Arthritis Information

I don't know why it's taken me 1.5 years to make this connection.  I know there is a theory that RA can be related to mercury, but just today I realized that I probably had some exposure to mercury at my job...not a significant amount, but chronic low exposure perhaps enough to cause a problem.

Has anyone here been tested for mercury exposure?  Have you done a mercury detox program, or any other mercury-related treatment, and seen any benefit?
Chelation therapy will remove heavy metals from your system if you test postive.

stemcell4me2008-02-11 12:51:20I haven't been tested, but I do know that i regularly had mercury exposure as a child.  I have psoriasis and when i was very little there was a cream that i put on my hands and head (my worst spots) and it went away fast.  After a few years they took it off the market and say the mercury level was far too high in it for regulations.  I didn't know what mercury was at the time, but it does upset me to know i took the medication for years.  I am also sad it stopped cuz it worked so well.

I keep reading articles stating that people should stay away from eating fish like salmon because the mercury levels are far too high.

It does make me wonder.
Aren't the  light bulbs that we must convert to per the new energy bill loaded with mercury?  Don't drop one!Figures - and flourescent is bad for the eyes.

There are theories that the mercury in old amalgams cause AI diseases.  You might search Youtube - I saw something once - them scratching a filling and the mercury vapor coming off.  Not a good feeling for me seeing that...my PRA was 'triggered' by dental work.

I've had all my old amalgams removed and need to look into heavy metal testing.  So much to do...

Yea, and to be honest, they're more expensive and they don't seem to last much longer than the regular incandescent bulbs.  I've not seen a noticeable reduction in electric bills either since using them.

What are the metal fillings we all have in our mouths since childhood made from? I mean, my kids get white fillings now. I wonder what kind of metal ours are made of.Amalgams.

Hence my saying bye-bye to them.

So our fillings are mercury? When i did go to my dentist about 5 years ago, he couldn't tell if my fillings from when i was little were mercury or not, so he replaced them.  I forgot all about those.Gosh some of my fillings have got to be 30 years old. I'm 41 now.OK, I work(ed) for a lighting company....the energy saving compact fluorescent bulbs do have mercury in them, but it is a minute amount.  Yes, each drop is dangerous, but you are still better off conserving the energy, and they really do conserve a lot of energy.

I'm afraid of the exposure I've had from broken linear fluorescents (the ones that go in the ceiling) because even though all the manufacturers have reduced their mercury content, there's still quite a bit of mercury in them.

As for fillings, I still have some old metal ones, but as my teeth decay (they've always been bad), they are rapidly being replaced by porcelain crowns.  At least until I run out of money.
