Injection Site Reaction | Arthritis Information

I've been taking Enbrel for 4 weeks now and the last 2 to 3 weeks, a day or two after I give the injection, the area turns bright red and ITCHES like mad! Should I put some cream on it to help the itching? That happened to me too. I was fine at first but with each injection it seemed like it got worse. I found if I tried not to touch it, it was ok. I tired crortizone cream and it didn't help very much. I bet someone else has better advice or something else  to try. hi
I think I'd try a Benedryl antihistamine the day I injected if that happened to me, though fortunately haven't had to do this.

When that happened to me I found an oral antihistamine (like Sudafed) helped better than a topical antihistamine.  Unfortunately, mine started getting worse with each injection until I stopped.  I hope it works out better for you.Hi,

I had the same site reactions when I first started Enbrel.  In fact, for the first 2 months whenever I injected Enbrel all the previous injection sites flared up as well.  Fortunately cortisone cream worked for me.  I have not had a site reaction since and I have been on it since 2001.  Anna's suggestion of taking Benedryl is very good.  Also,  if you don't want to use cortisone cream, Benedryl also makes a cream and a spray that work great.
That happened to me at first too.  I didn't take anything for it though......it stopped happening after a while. Thanks everyone!!
