I lost a thread: High B12 reading | Arthritis Information

Sometime, recently, somebody posted their recent blood work tests, and I was going to reply, and didn't get back to it, and with all the commotion in here, the post is pushed so far down I cannot find it.  So, whoever posted it, I think you said you had a high B12.

I was tested for anemias and pulled a B12 of 1410 about a year ago and did some research.  It's rare to have high B12.  So, you were asking for some feedback and I would suggest you talk your high B12 reading over with your doctor until you get it resolved.  It's not right to have high B12 results.  Whoever you are (yikes) take care ~~ Cathy
This sounds pretty important so I'm gonna bump it.  I hope the right person finds your response.  It was good of you to take the time to help him/her out.  JSNM, do you know what the symptoms of high B-12 are? If there are any? Or what it does to you? Did your doctor ever tell you?Katie - no, I didn't pursue it and the former primary never addressed it.  I was too overwhelmed a year ago to even begin to push on it.  It's on my list for my next two-month check.  I have so many unresolved medical issues, that my wonderful family practitioner and I are slowly working our way through this FUBAR.  Thanks for asking though, I  appreciate it.  CathyAh, I see. Well, if no one responds to this thread..........when you do address it, I have to admit I'm curious!

Katie - of course, I just spent some time on it :)  And my frain bog remembered that there was hardly anything about high B12, except its abnormal.  There seems to be some connection to folate/folic acid, so perhaps because I was on MTX and folic acid to counteract the side effects of the MTX, that was why I had the high B12 reading.  I actually had forgotten about it until I saw that post, and wrote it down for discussion at my next MD appointment.  All you hear about is low Vitamin B12/anemia, nothing about high B12, I guess that's why its rare.  Who knows :)

Oohh Oohh Oohh!!!!

Question!!!

Okay, so you take folic acid while on MTX, because MTX can inhibit your intake of the folic acid. Right? So what if you take the folic acid like a good little patient, but you don't NEED it. Even though your on the MTX, your body is still functioning and uptaking folic acid like it's supposed to.

Does too much folic acid DO anything? Is that the cause of high B-12??

Just a thought! You got my hamsters turning! (Thanks Mel....for that wonderful visual...)

Katie, I could be wrong here but I think I asked the question about too much folic acid and someone said that with extra folic acid that your body would just eliminate.

Well poop. There went my theory! lol

JSNM - I think Katie might be on to something.  I've some research I've been meaning to post about e coli in the intestines that inhibit folic acid uptake.  Saw 2 or 3 folic acid things at the same time so it stuck in my mind as a possible problem with cell communication.  Like that thread on AF with stress induced sticky blood protein production.  Which sounds very complicated and why I'm not making sense here.

I'll go away now.

Pip

And that damn Vitamin D thing - 'vitamin D hypersensivity'.  As far as I can tell, that might be all of us.

Pip who obviously didn't go away
JSNM...it was ME!! it was on my Happy Birthday GrammaKathy thread.
I am not sure that my B12 is high it says a 418 and the range is 211-946. So, if anything it may be low. My folic Acid is way low I guess and my inflammatory appears to be quite high.
RDW is 14.5 high ESR is 41 High and CRP is 16, high. No clue what it all means. Next RD appt is March 19th with new doc.
Hurrah!  The crops are saved!  LOL  Thanks Kathy, I didn't even think to look in a Happy Birthday thread

Pip, I have seen that connection too, and I also think Katie

Thank you Pip for not going away, and thanks Katie for making my frain bog work a little again.  I have huge box of collected research and my medical history which I am organizing and working on for my wonderful medical doctor and I to review, SLOWLY.  She is amazing.  Cathy PS Happy Birthday again !!!
...............*crickets chirp*......................

I had a good idea?

Sweet!
Ok, so I looked up the too high folic acid. What it can do is block the B12. The B12 needs folic acid to work, but if there is too much FA, the it blocks the B12.
Doc sent me a letter. I need to add 1mg of folic acid to the medicine list.
