Enbrel or Remacaid | Arthritis Information

My RD 's office called today and wanted to know if I put in My apeal for Remicaid.  I am confused?  Know big surprise.   In his office they are refered to as the ( Remicaid nures). Now are they employed by my Doc!  She told me that he put me on Enbel so I wouldn't have to suffer until I recieved Remicaid.  Are the nurse's funded by Remicaid or has the RA gotten worse. If feel's as though it has. Why would he start me on on one, then to go ahead and change it. I do trust my Doc. and don't want to think it is a kick back thing.  Help!!! ......              Thanx allYou should ask him, only he has the answer for you.  They are known as infusion nurses and not by the name of the drug.  You said that she told you that they had put you on Enbrel until you received the authorization for Remicade.  Sounds like they wanted you on Remicade first but couldn't do it till authorization received.  Usually they wait to start you on a biol. once they have authorization in hand and don't substitute one for the other and then start a different one.  I'd call and talk to the RD.  LindyThis doesn't make any sense to me, are you on Enbrel right now, waiting to get the Remicade authorized? I was on Enbrel for 3 months with no relief, so I was switched to Remicade, which I get at the Oncology dept at the hospital. I think the nurses at the dr's office work for him, although they may be trained by Remicade. If the infusion is given at his office by his employees he would make money off of it. He would be paid by the insurance company for the hourly rate for the nurse, for the supplies they need to give the infusion, for the Remicade and any other pharmacy solution used. I think you need to ask someone in the office to explain it all to you. He will definately make more money off Remicade, than the Enbrel because you get that at your pharmacy and inject yourself.

Hey Nut!

What meds are you on now?

Pip
Pip, I am on Enbrel 50mg.  MTX.6  Folic acid 5mg. Vicodin 750mg. Ambien10mg. and synthroid75mg.  Proably a little more information then you need (med wise haha!). Well I think you know how much trouble I have been having with my insurance company.  When the nurse's that give the infusion's call  they always refer to them self as the the Remicade Nurse's. Don't know why they just do. Insurance company denied me for Remicade I have been in so much pain so he when ahead a put me on the Enbrel. When they called me today and asked me to  reaply,  I just wasn't sure if maybe my blood work may have came back worse?  . It just took me aback this is all so new to me. I havn't been on the Enbrel for just a week. Don't know if this has just became a power struggle between my Doc. and Inurance company?sounds like a communication thing.  The infusion nurses are told remicade is pending so they can order the meds and get you scheduled.  Then office mamager says things are on hold due to insurance problems.  Dr changes your medications and doesn't let infusion nurses know.  They follow up with you cause they still have you on their pending list.  Don't worry about it..just follow the doctors orders.

The nurses work for the doctor or infusion center not for the pharmaceutical company
True but he gets paid more for the infusions in office than Enbrel at home.

OK, help me again (and biologic people help me too PLEASE as this aint my specialty).

Nut, are you saying you've only been on Enbrel a week and now he's changing...or are you saying Enbrel was not working and you've been off a week while they get the insurance in line for the Remicade?

Because if I have it right, most biologics work pretty quickly and they can know if it's working within 3 months.  Guys?

Pip
Yeah  Pip , I have only been on the Enbel for a week tommrow it will be two.  Maybe Buckeye is right. Never thought of it lke that I was just thinking of the negative
