RA Diet | Arthritis Information

Can someone lead me to a website that talks about foods to avoid if you have RA...or foods to avoid to control inflammation?

My rheumy tends to think that diet is not the problem - but then until recently rheumys didn't believe that changes in barometric pressure affected our joints either!

lorrie2008-11-24 00:04:34As far as RA diet is concerned I wouldn't bother researching!!!   Basically don't eat!!!
But I am joking....   I believe it is important for us to eat healthily,, much much much more so than for people who do not have chronic illness.    My family don't eat gluten or dairy, and we also have to omit anything with additives so we eat fairly healthily.
I would say that our diet comes close to what is often recommended for RA.
- no wheat
- no dairy
- no red meat
- no processed meats
- no additives (ready made food basically)
- no coffee/tea (drink alternatives and herbal teas)
- no fizzy drinks (i.e. cola, fanta)
- cut out anything that is high sugar/ high fat (cakes and biscuits)
- eat fish
- eat lots of fruit and veg (as much as you can)
- prepare all your food yourself
I think all this is an IDEAL to be aimed at, so emphasise the good things and minimise the bad things.     A slice of ham  or a burger a week probably won't kill you, but if you do it on a daily basis it's probably not good.
Someone has already mentioned that nightshades are supposed to be allergenic for those with RA, so it m ight be worth cutting these out for say a week just to see if you get any response.

I just wanted to say good luck with this and let us know how it goes for you.  Lots of people say they do soooo much better when they find their triggers.

Thank you for the information. I never thought about the Epson Salts. Acutally I use them when I put new plants in the ground.  It is suppose to help them so they don't go in shock I guess
