Imuran - dissolves while you're swallowing? | Arthritis Information

Since Joonie's got me talking all about Imuran, I was wondering if anyone else finds that it starts to dissolve while you're swallowing it?  Out of all my meds--and I have plenty of chalky, large, and odd-shaped ones--this seems to be the most difficult to swallow.  And of course, it doesn't taste very good!

But since you said it dissolves while swallowing... I will try it out tonight and let ya know. LOL... I have gotten one stuck in my throat... and it took me hours of drinking water and swallowing hard to get it to go down or dissolve. I tried to hack it up, but it was not coming back up.

I take a ton of pills every day and so have to take them 1 at a time. Just can't do the throw a handful of pills in the mouth and wash them down! Yuk!

Can't say I have ever had the imuran dissolve in my mouth though when taking it.   Do you take the name brand or the generic form? Maybe there is a difference?   I always take the generic form.I take the generic form of Imuran. I took it tonight by itself, and it did get mushy. And the taste is not as bitter as pred is to me. The taste did not stay in my mouth for hours like pred does when I let it hit my tounge. YUKKY!!

Yeah, the taste of pred can be pretty nasty and linger for quite a while to.

I have one heart med though, that smells bad and tastes even worse.   I can't take that med with water, have to have something flavored to wash down the med as I can't stand the taste it leaves if I take it just with water.I take the generic Azathioprine too.  I'm bad though, because I always take my meds with something flavored.  But the taste of the Imuran--or maybe it's the texture?--still comes through.

The only med I took that actually tasted good was the antibiotic Clarithromyacin.  It tasted just like vanilla so I always took that one last while I was on it.
