Hi Guys, hope you all are having a great weekend.  Just thought I'd let you know what is going on with moi!

My MTX was put up 2 weeks ago to 15mg from 12.5 (injectible) and my tummy has been awful, so first question is, do I go back to 12.5mg, as the tummies are getting worse and they always have on MTX but not quite as bad as this, I don't seem to be as bad on 12.5 but the MTX help isn't as great either on 12.5mg for my joints and energy levels which have seen a great improvement.

Secondly, my feet are really sore to walk on and my ankles.  My right foot still has post traumatic stress disorder from the fracture I gave it, but I have a heel spur and I know they aren't usually symptomatic but my heel is very painful with or without weight on it!  My ankles are giving me hassle too, I use my mobility scooter for shopping mainly but I have to try and walk for exercise because of my weight gain.  I don't know what the answer is but my weight now has become a major issue, my GP says I have to do something drastic as I am becoming morbidly obese.  And to think I was an athlete, it really p----s me off.  I was hoping to taper the pred cos the MTX was working but here comes that merry-go-round again and I can't get off!  Cheers Janie. Hi Janie, I can really feel for you. My ankles have been my weakest joints since the PA started. I have had it so bad that every small step brings tears. And I used to be so tough when it came to pain. Up walking around half an hour after having my 3 kids (by ceasarian) I have bought some ankle braces and they help a bit. but the best thing is to to just stay off them and elevate them for a while. My country town is so small and yet I cant even walk to the shops anymore. So like you the weight is piling on .plus I am only 4ft10inches so look like a round womble. It is so depressing.Sorry I cant help much . could you speak to your doctor about your weight concerns or your local pharmacy. There must be someway to burn energy without causing more pain. If you find it let me know. Take careThanks Allycat, I really appreciate your reply, whereabouts are you in Aus?  I am in Hervey Bay, beautiful spot.  Hugs Janie. Janie, I hear the weight thing...now that all of my meds are pulled and I look like a puff ball of swelling I understand just how you feel.

Yes, with the PA my feet and ankles sound very much like both of you.  I have not found anything other than stretching them and elevating them as much as possible.  I am so sorry!
Anybody willing to consider probiotics for the feet?  I got bad in my feet when I I skipped them but it took about 6 weeks for the foot pain to go away once I started up again.  Janie, that might really help you because of the gastric issues with MTX.

Janie, i too, have terrible foot and ankle pain. Especially in my heels. It could be plantar fascititis(SP?) There is a shoe insert you can get. I think Dr Scholls make it. It is shaped like a horse shoe and fits in the heel of your shoes. It worked better than anything else from me. Good luck. I hope you find something that works for you. Janie, I'm sorry you're having pain and weight issues.  One of the most frustrating things about this whole thing is the merry-go-round meds.  You need the prednisone, but it makes you gain weight, which is bad for your ankles and health in general, but you HAVE to take the pred. anyway.  And when your ankles hurt, it's hard to walk the weight off.  How frustrating.  I wonder if any of the other people taking prednisone long term have come up with a solution for keeping the extra weight off.  It would be valuable information for many here.  I hope you get the answers you need. Jesse882008-02-18 10:20:38Leucovorin calcium (yes yet another script) helped me tolarate MTX. I really had miserable gut issues with MTX.

Spenco makes some very good shoe inserts that really help with plantar fascia tendonititis. A combo of gentle arch support and a LOT of heel padding helped me quite a bit.

I am continuing my 50 year search for shoes that put an end to foot pain. I have not yet succeeded in finding a perfect pair .... but shoes can make a huge difference in foot/ankle pain - seriously!
Thanks guys, just went and had my 15mg, Dr wouldn't let me reduce it as ESR has gone up again.  Feet are terribly sore, and also hips and knees and pelvis today!  Blood pressure is up again even though I am on bl pressure meds and fluid tablets.  One good thing is I lost 2.3kg in one week just by lowering my carbs.  so new blood pressure med on top of current one has been postponed for now until we see what happens with the weight loss.  Cheers Janie.   Janie  I'm sorry hun.

To lighten the mood: I've got a saw......it's kinda rusty, but with some elbow grease I can lob them off at the ankles for you.............they wouldn't hurt anymore. *grin*

OH BRAIN STARTED WORKING!!!  Do yo  have a parafin wax bath???  Look into those, they're WONDERFUL and I'm sure it would give you some kind of relief for your feet!! It's not going to be an "omg the pains all gone" kind of thing, but it would certianly help some. *hugs*
Janie about your sore feet! I know how you feel. I have had lots of problems with my too. I have had a bone spur on my heel and I have tarsal tunnel syndrome. I have found that if I use icy/hot or some kind of creme like that then put on a pair of socks it helps some and keeps the heat in.
I hope you get some relief soon,
take care
