What is breakthrough pain?

Remember the first time you had sex - that's it.What to do for pain that builds up over a period of days and then just gets worse? Or keeps coming back as soon as pain meds wear off?HI Joonie, it is when your pain levels are generally well controlled but you occasionally find the meds not enough and have breakthrough pain.  Usually a Dr would prescribe another med for the breakthrough pain, one you don't take regularly.  Regards Janie. OMG Karen. LMAO

I would have never thought to describe it like that!!! Are you considered "lucky" if you never had that pain?

Or just "slutty" (somehow?) LMAO
I am trying to figure out just what kind of pain I have when the Remicade wears off or starts to wear off. I am going to let RD know exactly what it is. I just want a pain med that works. Especially when that is my only option sometimes is to take pain meds. I think you should call and ask for an appointment for the day the doctor gets back.  You need to get some help for your pain and swelling, Joonie.Ok I think I found out what kind of pain I have. Thanks to a breast cancer website

Persistent pain (chronic)

    • It's ongoing, background pain. It can range from mild to severe: It may feel like a highly uncomfortable ache or grinding agony.
    • Persistent pain is usually treated with medication you take around-the-clock. Alternative and complementary methods may also help.
    • Because persistent pain lasts day after day, it can steal the quality of your life and leave you feeling weak and dependent on others.
    • Persistent pain may interfere with your ability to feel interest in anything other than your condition. This may isolate you from friends, places you love, and the more pleasant aspects of your normal life.
    • There are effective treatments for most persistent pain. If your treatment is not working, talk with your doctor or a pain specialist.
    • Many people avoid the cancer treatments they need because they are in persistent pain. Make sure you get the relief you need to continue your treatments.

My appt is the day she gets back. Had that appt scheduled since Jan.

I hate it when I get things mixed up or confussed, and it gets worse the more pain I am in.
Ok... let me TRY to explain my pain.

When I get the Remicade infusion my pain is much, MUCH less. It is so tolerable that it does not really bother me, I do not even think about it at all. I do not have any need for pain meds. As the pain is not that great. I do have some breakthrough pain, but it is triggered pain or from moving a joint a certain way. The only pain that really bothers me when the Remicade is working is my neck/shoulder/back pain. It bothers me more the longer I sit up.

Now... the pain I experience when the Remicade wears off is always there. It never goes away and it builds up over time. Even if I take pain meds, as soon as those wear off the pain is back and does not seem to be any less then before the pain med kicked in. All I can do it think about the pain and how I wished it would stop. I just feel drained physically and mentally.

Now... did I explain it good enough that you can see why I am confussed about how to take pain meds and how to control my pain?
