Left Pinky Finger Numb | Arthritis Information

This is a first for me. For about a month now my hands feel cold as ice all the time...kinda like what Joonie describes. Well for the past couple of weeks I've noticed tingleing and numbness in my left pinky and weakness in my left hand. I can barely hold a curling iron or open a soda bottle. In the mornings it's worse..I sometimes sleep with my left arm under me. My hand is swollen and throbs for a good hour before I can work the soreness out. My finger stays numb all the time. Anybody have this? I have a dr's appt the 26th of this month.

You may need to have the dr prescribe a splint.  Wear it when you sleep and it will help, what happens is some of us at night have a habit of curling in our hands at the wrist which cuts off circulation and causes numbness, ec.  Also you may be feeling the beginnings of carpal tunnel the wrist splints will help if you wear them while sleeping.  I hope this helps memeIs it the same arm you have tendinitis in your elbow on? Sounds like a pinched nerve, specifically the ulnar nerve. Ask your doc! But I'll put money on that nerve!! :-D Thanks Meme, I thought about carpal tunnel but my wrist doesn't hurt at all. Just my hand, feel like the bones are sore and pinky numb. Rarely my right hand swells and aches but no numbness. Wonder if it could come from a nerve or tendon in my shoulder, it's sore and achy all the time. No it's not the same arm where I have tennis elbow.(right arm) ..but I do think nerves are involved somehow because of the tingleing and numbness. It could be. Is it worse when you wake up? Do you sleep with your arms curled up?

Yes I sleep with my left arm under my breast, almost on my tummy...but I've always slept that way.
....open a soda bottle....
You can open a soda bottle with your hand? I usually get my "butler" to open oneof those for me

Sorry to hear about your pinky. Hope the Dr. appt sheds some light on why it is numb.
I usually use pliers when "the butler" isn't home...gotta have that Sundrop! Sure it helps Katie...I don't cuss nobody when I have my Sundrop?
I'm not betting with you, I think you're right!
there is something called cubital tunnel syndrome which is where the ulna nerve is compressed at the elbow causing numbness in the pinkie and ring fingers and weakness in the grip as the same nerve helps control the thumb.  The numbness will generally be on the palm side on the hand.  This syndrome can be positional but on going numbness says the nerve may be compressed due to inflammtion.

Try wrapping a towel around your elbow before you go to sleep.  It will prevent you from tightly bending your arms.  Also try to avoid leaning on your elbows as you computer or other activities.   See if the numbess improves before your appt.  If it does you have a hint as to what is happening
I had problems with numbness/tingling in fingers and was told I had CTS.  I was to have surgery, but since I'm such a big baby, I said I wanted to give the wrist splint a little more time to see if that fixed it.  After wearing it non stop (except to shower/wash dishes) for a few months it went away.  Now when I feel the numbness/tingling starting, I put my wrist splint on for a while and it goes away pretty fast.

If it gets to the point you can not open the soda bottle do what i do have the soda pumped in interviniously. LOL Now i honestly do not see where carpul tunnel would effect the feet on a more serious note. I thought you where always hot Mona? You know maybe you have been hanging around with us RA"ers so long your catching it. The hand thing sounds like carpul tunnel, but the iced feet? This is a problem you have had for a month. Well i wish you well but i do want you to keep us updated . My pinkie was the first to go! It still won't extend all the way after 3 years. It was my first sign and what got me to the point where I found out I had RA. Fingers and toes. Stay on top of it, let us know how it's doing. Good to chat with you again. How's every little thing?
