Went to rheumy and im not pleased. Im so frustrated. she doesnt want to do orencia or rituxan which i understand cause she doesnt know long term stuff for someone my age.... SO she put me on effexor and if that doesnt work a pain med i forget which. i dont have damage so she isnt worried... She is checking my thyroid cause my hair is falling out a lot. its half as thin as it used to be. BLAH! im frustrated, the new med she wants me to try is gonna be another year......
Sorry for my usual question Littlemermaid, but did you ask about Minocin? No damage is GREAT news but...why be in pain for the next year? You are supposed to enjoy college!

I am so sorry mermaid things don't seem to be going well. I hope it gets better soon and they find something for you.I'm confused - your rheum doesn't want to try Orencia or Rituxan because there isn't longterm data, but instead wants you wait a year to try new med that isn't out yet??? How would that have longterm data??? Her reasoning does not match up to me.
It's a relief you don't have damage, so hopefully she can find something to help you feel better.
Be sure she checks your T3 and T4 thyroid, not just your total TSH number. Is she checking for thyroid antibodies as well which would indicate hoshimotos(sp?) disease, autoimmune disease of the thyroid. I am having similiar issues and although my total tsh is in the normal range, my t3 and t4 are low and I will be starting thyroid medication this week. My hair is less than 1/3 of what it used to be!
