Nice Pain Scale Chart | Arthritis Information

By that chart I am a 6 going on to a 7.

But if a Dr. asked me without the descriptions and just the faces I would have thought at least 4 or 5 based on the way the face looks. But not like I even know how my face looks when I am in pain. Most days people think I am pissed about something when I am hurting and that is without me even saying a word. *shurgs shoulders*You know, except for my gp I haven't seen a pain chart in a doctor's office in years! But they sure have asked a whole lot of absurd questions!

Like when you are barely able to walk into the doctor's office; need support of some type to either sit down or rise; when the tears aren't always possible to hold back as the doctor pokes and probes; and so on and so forth, the doctor or the assistant still asks you to rate your pain level.  And They Get Paid For This!!  Ridiculus................!
My RD's rooms have pain scale charts on the door, and they have like 5 questions and if you answer yes to so many of them then you should discuss your pain level with your RD. I always have 4 out 5 of the questions as yes. So... I do not tell of my pain, because I am not sure which face I am. I can never gage my own pain. I usually think it is way less than what others think it is, but only probably because I get use to the pain and deal with it my own way... which seems to be ignoring it. Joanie darlin, how can you expect your Dr to help you, if you're not being honest w/ him and telling him how bad the pain is.

LOVE THE CHART!! ... i don't go by the faces, but the description and bedrest.. lol
is always, lol

Ignoring your pain, isn't helping anyone and esp yourself. I know we get used to a certain amt.. but i always tell my dr, whats going on.. and yeah i think you Need to be more open and tell him how much you hurt.... and how you deal w/ it.

read my response, on is any pain acceptable.. BALANCE....

What are the 5 questions? your doc has.

thanks for posting the chart.. the descriptions are good.
I do not remember what the questions are on the chart. But they pretain to pain hehehehe Not trying to be a smartass, but that is all I can tell ya.

I know I am suppose to tell of my pain, but... it is kinda like this article online that I just read... I do not tell of it because it is a coping mechinism. So the article says.

Article I Read: http://www.overcomingpain.com/10tips.html

Read the rest of the articles they are very helpful and have helped me to understand why I do not think my pain is as bad as it is.
Joonie I real like your pain chart, It is so much better then 1-10. you crack me up ......... You are a breath of fresh air . Weather or not I am in pain I still think my face looks like number 8.or so my husband would say HEHEHE....... Well... I guess my face always looks like the 6. Everyone always thinks I am pissed at something or someone, but I am not. Just like last weekend MIL thought I was pissed at her because I looked like 6, gave her yes or no answers, and did not talk much. I was just in pain and trying to keep it to myself, that was all. joanie darlin i really do like you and no i haven't read the article .. yet.. lol

but to me, Education is teaching other people, I'm just a big believer of Communicating..
and tell your mil, friends, if you're having a rough day.. and just don't feel up to much talk.

You don't have to tell her anything, or go into, if you don't want to.. but it really helps if you inform people of whats going on and there are ways to do it, w/o sounding like self pity .. ya know?

oh by the way, way before RA, i was a waitress and people always thought i was mad, lol, bc i couldn't just engage in casual conversation while i was working. I had to really
concentrate on what i was doing.. 5 tables, up to 20 plus people at times.. and i was dealing in minutes, plus trying to be nice to the hostess, the cooks, the bussers, and the customers! lol.. exhausting! LOL
Well... you know what my reply is when I go to a Dr's or RD's office and the doctor comes in the room and says "so how are you today?" I always reply back with "I'm ok." Just something I do. Even if someone will ask me how I am doing... I say "I'm ok". Yep, I have also had them reply back with "Now tell me how you really are doing." and I reply back with "Are you sure you REALLY want to hear it?"

It is just how I have always been about my pain and disease.
