Swelling After Effects | Arthritis Information

I have been slowly developing that "prune wrinkling after too long in water" look to the palm side of my fingers, mostly in the fingertips.  I have been explaining it away in my head that it's loose skin from the swelling, and it does come and go with swelling.

But for the past two days ago my worst finger for damage has had a sharp needle-like pain in it, and at first I thought I might have cut it or took a splinter or something as it started while I was preparing a meal.  But I couldn't see anything.

Yesterday, I noticed a small mark developed where the pain site is that looks like a paper cut, but it doesn't split the skin, it's more like an indentation, and it looks like it wants to crack open.   So I closely look and all my finger tips are developing these cracks.  Does anyone else have this?

I supposedly also have scleroderma which has never been addressed and my hands on the palm side have slowly become waxy-looking, and last night it was very apparent that the hand with the finger pain, all five fingers from the crease of the first knuckle to the finger tip, the whole section is a bright red color, and from the crease down to my hand and into my arm is my usual skin color.  Anybody know anything about this?  It looks exactly the same this morning, and it didn't change overnight, which is unusual for me as I change symptoms every day.

If this is scleroderma, this is not how I have read how it starts to show itself.  Thanks in advance ~~ Cathy
justsaynoemore2008-02-21 04:55:10I am sorry, Cathy. I hope you figure out what it is.

Much Hugs!
Cathy - post on the RB but I've never seen a post that describes that.  I don't think it's SD (thank God).  Could it be a herx?  What was the ER debacle?

Take pictures of it for the doc.

Hi Cathy, If you find out what is going on please let me know, I am having the same symptoms and am not due for dr. appt for almost a month. Mine started the same way yours did and I thought it was from swelling until it kept getting worse. I am one that gets the weird symptoms too. One thing we can rule out is a Herx since I am not on antibiotic protocol at this time.

JSNM, I have no words of wisdom on this subject, but I'm hoping by bumping it you'll get some more information.  Hugs.

Thanks Jesse :)  Reader, you and a couple of others who have pmed me are describing the same symptom, which is a mental relief for me because I have such weird symptoms and have had so many doctors tell me I am faking symptoms for drugs, I have developed a complex about what is happening to me.  Is it really happening or not?  Did I really see that weird bubbling under my skin?  It's enough to drive you crazy.

Unfortunately, I went into in-depth research on Raynaud's, and 70% of people who have these symptoms and it's Raynauds, go on to scleroderma.  Not good news I am afraid.  I also read how these ulcers can lead to gangrene and amputation.  Then I stopped, I couldn't handle anymore.

I will post again the end of March after my next appointment, but there doesn't seem to be any treatment, it's just part of the progression.  Reader, if you haven't been tested for scleroderma, you might want to think about it - knowledge is power.  CathyAK
Sorry you have developed a complex, yet i understand. I had Raynauds so bad the day i went to the er sick with the abcessed tooth and that was the day they called the counsler instead of the doctor. So when the specialist asked questions about the raynauds i did not answer and he got mad. Instead i went to my doctor while in progress and said gee what is this? He said that is something we call Raynauds. I said well you call the specialist and tell him. Because I did not want to just over whelm the specialist to badly. Or I did not want him to think i was nuts or a hypochondriac. Like i said all of my test are not back yet. There is always the hope of remission. But if you have ulcers watch them I mean wouldn't antibiotics prevent one from getting gangreen?
