Hello everyone

I have to have a minor operation to have a polyp removed from my uterus. (I've had a worrying time while it was decided what the problem was, but feel much happier now I know, and that it can be dealt with). I'm going to have to have a general anaesthetic, and will be talking to the anaesthetist about prednisolone, and anaesthesia.

What I wanted to know from anyone on the forum is to do with the effects of the anaesthetic on pmr. Is it possible I might feel worse afterwards? Is there a possibility of a flare? Or am I worrying about nothing? The operation isn't till 2/4 - dalayed a bit as I have 2 weeks holiday arranged.

Hello Margaret,

I recently had two surgeries a month apart and had no problem with the anethesia or effects afterwards.  They did mention giving me a little more prednisone before hand.  I wouldn't worry about it.  Just make sure you let them know you are taking Pred.

I hope all goes well and you feel better soon!

Good riddance to the nasty old polyp Margaret! I'm sure it will all go well. In all my readings on prednisone, I have not seen anything about an anaesthetic prompting a flare of the disease. Still, as we know, there is a lot about PMR we don't know! So make sure you are well fed and rested and try not to stress! thanks Chico and Kathy - very reassuring. I have to see the anaesthetist in advance of the op, as they already know I am on prednisolone. I think they give you an extra shot of it before the op from what the consultant says, and that ties in with what I've read.

So I shall go away and enjoy my holiday and get really relaxed.

MargaretI had surgery when I was on 15 mg and had no trouble... hope all goes well@ and I agree, get rid of that nasty little thing!
