~Would you move? If you would feel better | Arthritis Information

hi hi I was just wondering, i know of  a lot of you are in really cold climates.. Wi, Mn, etc..

Would you move/ relocate.. if you knew it might even help a little bit? What would make it worthwhile?
Would you even consider it?

I love nc, but i'd be in such misery, right now, if I lived there.. southern ca, makes a HUGE difference, in my joints/ depression.. and yeah I have a  lot of bad days,
but i'd be soo much worse, in a colder climate!!!
I'd seriously be bedridden, most of the time and about 10x worse, then i am now.

when the weather changes and gets even a little bit cooler..my joints really hurt..

my goal is still, lol to live in nc.. may thru oct.. someday and the rest of the year yr..here, in sunny sd.
I can't deal w/ 6-7 months of cold, grey dreary weather.. I love it that the flowers bloom here all yr round.. tho its incredibly expensive..  not so bad, on disability.. and AZ.. has some low cost cities.. i think..

thoughts?

So what keeps you where you are? Family, job..
the sameness?

So i was wondering, if anyone has ever considered or would move, if it would help?

Everything's better in SoCal.  LOL

But seriously, I moved to LA for better access to non-tradional MD's (and was sadly disappointed - but that's a different story ;-)  I think, if I wasn't on AP, the southern climes would be better for us.  Post after post tells us that the weather matters.

P.S.  Years ago I'd seen this newspaper article that said AZ had the highest incidence of 'arthritis' in the country.  This was before I was aware that there were different kinds of 'arthritis'.  LOL  It seemed that people moved there for the dry climate, their families went with them, the kids married, and that genetically they were much more likely to have 'arthritis' than elsewhere.  But we've seen studies that say genes are not as important as originally thought.  I wonder if this is still true about AZ?

Yep.

We run a business from home and live in a manufactured home, we would just get someone to deliver our home to a new property.

I would do it in a heart beat BUT.... only after my kid graduates from high school, 4 more years.
Hi Whispered
Im sure everything is better in SoCal!!!  Very cloudy in London this morning!
Seriously though... I know the sun is good for us, lots of Vit D, the happy vitamin.
I also wonder to what extent diet does this, when Im somewhere nice and sunny I just automatically eat more salad, fruit, drink water etc.

I'm in MN and just celebrating my 1 yr anniversary with RA, so haven't really been able to tell yet whether the weather makes a difference.  Would I move if I find that the weather does wreak havoc on RA?  I don't think I would  - at least not at this point in my life.  Both our jobs are here, family and friends and I don't think we'd be happy moving away.  Plus, while it is cold in the winter the seasons in MN are beautiful, even winter.

While I do get tired of the cold, I think that would happen with or without RA.   My husband's family is here, but mine is in Florida, so maybe when I win that lottery we can have a home in both places, retire and split our time between both places.  That, I would go for in a heartbeat.

Cathy
I have moved but not far enough.  But I can sure say the winter here is nothing like in Ohio and Mich.  Most of everything is still the same as it was when I was in the colder states.

The only thing I have seen a difference is the way my hands get cold.  They do not freeze from sept to may like in mich and ohio.  The do freeze from maybe nov until april.  That is the only improvment I have seen.
I moved from the south up north.  I moved to be closer to family and my support system  plus I hated the summers in the south...too hot.

I do miss flowers in Janurary though

I wonder why weather doesn't effect  some of us the way it does others.  Anyway, if I was in alot of pain consistantly I think I would make a move if my husband was agreeable )which I know he would be).  We'll probably end up moving south after our daughter graduates anyway.  I always said that if my kids grow up and spread out, then I'll leave MI, if they settle here I will stay.  2 are in in SC now, and with a grandbaby ont the way.............well, I want to be down there too.  And I know my daughter isn't planning on staying in MI either.

Linncn2008-02-23 08:32:16I don't like change.  There, I said it.  It would be hard for me to move for that reason alone.

But there's also my parents, my stepkids, and my friends.  It looks like the job is a moot point at the moment.

Also, I like having the seasons, even if I don't always like what they do to me.  And I like NJ...the mix of urban/suburban/rural landscapes just minutes from each other, the diversity of cultures, the short trips to NYC, Philly, the shore or the mountains, even if it's been a long time since I made any of those trips.

And lastly, but maybe most importantly, we just bought a condo over the summer, the first home I have actually owned, and we've but a bunch of money, sweat and tears into making it our own.
Oooh, and I forgot another reason.  I like rain and clouds and cool weather.  London would probably be perfect for me.  San Diego, although I've visited and it's lovely, would probably kill my spirit.I like 70's and a breeze, so where is that located?  I would move IF, someone would pack it all up for me and put it all back in it's place, someone paid us to move, and my husband could still have the same job that he loves so  much...... so I guess I don't see us moving too soon.  But 70's and a cool breeze and green all year round sure sounds nice I've been in this area all my life... my friends, family, my life are all here.whispered,
I just asked you about San Diego in the other post about weather--I guess I should of checked this one first!   hee hee
Anyways yes I would move--but I have to wait till my youngest graduates--I just couldn't move my kids till then. I live in a wondeful town right now in New Hampshire and the school system here is beyond wonderful. My youngest has some learning setbacks and they have been super with him! Thats what keeps me here. But my hubby and me always talk about moving after they are older. Maybe San Diego........thats the question I asked you in the other post. I wanted to know how you like it---because I hear its great there.
I live 25 miles outside London and its been cloudy and yukk today, but ive also lived in africa in very hot sunny conditions. The weather has no effect on my RA, although the freezing temperatures make me feel slighlty less swollen.I'm only moving for the cabana boys.......

j/k!!! I want to leave FL. It's too hot in the summer, and I'm in NORTHERN FL. You know, it's easier to get warm than it is to cool off. So bring on the snow!
Yeah Katie, but a hot summer doesn't hurt.  Cold hurts.  I thought you were moving back home???  Well, in the home area.
Yeah Katie, but a hot summer doesn't hurt.  Cold hurts.  I thought you were moving back home???  Well, in the home area.
Apparently you don't have vinyl seats in your car
NO SH**!!!! lmao The heat *hurts* Link. I can't explain it. It's just MISERABLE. I puff up *snaps fingers* like THAT. All I have to do is step outside, and I suddenly don't fit ANYTHING I've just put on.

98 Degree weather with 78% humidity is HORRIBLE. And that's only July's weather. Then comes august with the 102 degree weather and the 80% humidity. *gag*
I left north east Ohio two years ago, to south west Arizona, and I feel great! Sunshine, is here 350 days a year, and NO HUMIDITY! My joints love me for it! I have cut down on a lot of my medication too. All my family is still living in Ohio, but now they have a new place to vacation! It was, by far, the best thing I ever did for my arthritis.
