i managed to plunge my hand under a gallon of boiling water yesterday..

I was going to drain spaghettti and it poured all over my left hand and sleeve. I got  the hand and sleeve under cold water within about 2 tenths of a second, but MAN  did it hurt.

I gave the neighbors quite a show too when I whipped that sweater  off to get  rid of the heat..

No blisters, not even a read mark but I spent from 6 pm to 130 in the morning  putting my hand under cold water.   It hurt like hell for hours.    Naturally I didn't have any aloe in the house.

What do you all use to knock out the pain of a burn ? Years ago our hot water heater kind of blew and I got hit  in the wrist, the tender underside, and the dr put some kind of white ointment on it that  killed the pain instantly AND prevented any blistering.. Man I want some of that around the house.

I really hate burns.. they hurt so bad, all out of proportion to the injury.
I think that cream you're talking about is by prescription only.  My son got a bad burn on his hand once from a hot engine and we got some too, if it's the same stuff.

Boy, you're lucky you didn't lose the skin, that sounds just awful.
Ouch! running under cold water is always first thing you should do and I know vinegar is great for sunburn, so that might give you some relief. Hope it heals fast for you.

Sounds very painful! I am sure you will feel it tonight in bed.

My husband burned his entire foot under hot water one time - under the running faucet. He didn't tell me about it but the next day he had a foot sized blister covering his foot and I made him go to the doctor. Doctor told him that a burn of that nature can affect the tendons etc as the skin heals and 'pulls' this way and that. He had several visits back to the doctor and also some PT to exercise it as it healed.

Are you sure you don't need a doctor to look at it?
amazingly enough when I woke up this morning  it was fine.. A little warm to the touch, and it looked like a fading suntan, but no blisters, no redness.. it still hurts a bit,  and I washed dishes in cold water, but its so much better than it could have been

I did spend a LOT of time in the bathroom last night with running cool water on it.. I believe that made the difference
The cream you are referring to is Silvadine. It is a prescription and you should get some and start applying it ASAP. It will ease the pain and will prevent infection. You are so lucky. It had to have been the sudden smart thinking on your part. Oh, I hate burns. Ouch, ouch ouch!!!  I'm glad you're better today.  You were wise to spend so much time under cold water.  I think that made all the difference.  Jesse882008-02-23 13:25:41You probably did the best you could do with at home care. Cold cold and cold.

Amazingly, I did the *very* same thing last week. But I only caught my thumb under it! Much more managable! And I had the water running already so I was quick to get it under the cold water.

I lost some noodles though............LOL
