My back? | Arthritis Information

Argh!!!

I've NEVER had it this bad before. I have no idea what's causing it, I never have. I've never pulled my back, so I'm curious if it could be RA. I dunno. I know it's kinda rare in your spine, so I don't think that's it.

Could poor posture and carrying yourself in strange ways (because of OTHER body parts hurting) cause lower back pain??

This is some crap!!! My flexeril hasn't even touched it. *sigh*

Any advice? I'm at work until 7pm, so I have very limited access to things, but this is really killing me today.

Something "popped" earlier when I went potty - it was a long trip DOWN to that toilet seat....lol

When I got up I had about 15 minutes of relief. Whatever that pop was, was NICE. lol
I can not take them anymore either I became allergic over the years. Fish oil is helpful but mine is presciption. The pred upsets my stomache some but once i have the pain managed i guess it prevents me from feeling the pain in my stomache and i have rolaids for the reflux. I am even allergic to reflux meds. I am a sort of allergic to everything I need freak. So I understand but i have to decide which pain is worse or what is in my best interest. As long as it does not make me have a true allergic reaction sometimes i suffer with the stomache pain other days i favor my stomache and put up with fibro and RA pain. Seems there is always something.I would take a broken bone over stomach pain. I'm just like that. There are a few things that I just *cannot* cope with. Stomach issues is one of them. I'd take a broken bone over being nauseus anyday!!!I'm with ya on that Katie...I'd rather hurt than be nauseous Both at the same time is the pits!
Maybe you need realigned by a chiropracter...some people swear by them when they can't take much meds. Hope you feel better hun.
I cry like a friggin BABY when I'm nauseous. There's something about it that I just CAN'T stand!!! And stomach pains from NSAIDs, put me on the ground. I *cannot* function with them, no way, no how.I know what you mean Katie...I go and do with a certain amount of pain everyday...some worse than others. But let me get nauseated and pukey and I'm down for the count.Katie tell him how bad you get...he could give you a few to keep on hand. Zofran is best...my Dr gives me a few at a time and they will last me a year or two. If that doesn't help then I'm on my way to ER for IV Phenergan!Oh Deb! THANK YOU for telling me about those!!!!! I'm doing this log thing for my RD right now, so when I go back with all my information, I'll ask her about them.

Oh man I'm excited about it. LOL
You can pull something in your back and it not really be bad until the next day. I have episodes like your describing about twice a year....although I've gone more than a year now without an episode.

After the last episode my RD did xrays thensent me to an orthopedic specialist. I have some DDD, two buldging disk and arthritis. Often the worst of it is over in two or three days....but it's usually more than a week before it's right again.

Take the muscle relaxers for a few days even if your don't think their helping. that's if you aren't on them constantly anyway.

Feel Better. I always love a heating pad.
Yep I got that lecture about the flexeril from my RD a few visits ago. LOL I'm taking it I'm taking it......

I'll be milking the heating pad tonight. Right now I'm just counting the minutes till I can leave work! LOL
Just an educational note for Kweeb. My dx eight years ago was head to toe fibromyagia. And it is true i have gotten fibro in places i did not know even exsisted. One day a few years ago i was just hanging out in the kitchen with my son and boyfriend and suddenly started screaming. My groin area had locked up and was very painful. They picked me up and put me in the bed and I don't know that that made me feel any better, but it made them feel better that at least i was the bed while i was screaming and not in the kitchen making them something to eat. I get it in my chin and nose even, just where ever it wants to go. Went to walmart whith everyone one day and by the time we got back i couldn't undue my seat belt let alone get out of the car. My mom was freaking out, how did this happen you were just fine, how did this happen? It was like total regamortis only i was still alive. Couldn't move my arms or legs and my chest area was killing me. If you have fibro you have to be able to exspect anything can happen without warning. Mentally i have had to become more flexable as to understand my life can be interupted abruptly.HI Katie, I have had back problems for years and eventually had an operation, just to let you know I have experience with all this.

I used to find that lying on a hard floor on my tummy for 5 mins then progressing by leaning on your elbows and eventually pushing yourself up from that position so that your arms are straight and your palms are shoulder width apart and your spine is slowly very slowly stretched into a flex position, hold it there and repeat about 5 times then rest and do these every two hours when acute.  These are from a book which is called Mind your own back.  Have you tried antiinflammatory suppositories?  they may help you bypass the tummy issues.  The other thing that helps is heat for me.  Hope this helps, Janie.

PS  I'd say you have a trapped nerve from disc degeneration or an osteophyte that is catching the nerve and the pop may have freed it temporarily.  Best of luck, oh and also if it interferes with your ability to go to the toilet, no. 1 or no. 2 then you need to go and see a specialist immediately.  I chose a neurologist over an othopaedic.
"also if it interferes with your ability to go to the toilet, no. 1 or no. 2 then you need to go and see a specialist immediately"

You know Janie, I was going to mention that, and then forgot. Thanks gor bringing it up, and answering a question I forgot to ask!! LOL
RA doesn't usually attack the lower spine -- the cervical spine, yes, but for some odd reason it leaves the other alone. A cough, a sneeze or merely getting up from bed can put backs into spasms. I would check for degenerative disc disease or OA.It sounds like you had a low back spinal subluxation which went back into place when you sat down on the toilet and heard the "pop".  Except for some muscle soreness, you should be okay now.  A cheap chiropractic adjustment ala the toilet bowl.  LOL That's the coolest thing I've heard all day JSNM.

My back usually pops on its own A LOT. It hasn't popped in days. I usually end up in some kind of pain when that happens, but this is way way more extreme than usual.

I attempted to put some clothes from the wash to the dryer earlier......well I can't bend right so I was doing this strange squat type thing, and I FRICKING PULLED A GROIN MUSCLE!!

LMAO
You might try to get a massage to loosen up the muscles down there.  I'm headed to my massage therapist first thing in the morning...I've been sharing your pain today!  I hope you feel better soon.
If you can get a foam roll, or use on at a gym, lay on it..hurts a little....but it puts your spine in good shape.  Lay on it with your head on the roll, going down your spine, drop your shoulders and arms down and you'll feel a gentle pull across your shoulders.....loosens crap up.Katie, everyone has given you good advice.....I'm sending a hug (((((K)))))  LindyKatie,

I too have a lot of experience with back pain...had problems for 13 years before it got so bad this summer I had to have back surgery.  I had 2 herniated disks in my lower spine (L4 - L5, L5-S1).  The pain you are describing in your back and down your legs sounds a lot like what I went through.  And the part about the bathroom as well...my pain was always worse when I was, um, full...but relieved a bit when i emptied.  :)

And you may not have done anything...mine was hereditary, and I just made it worse over the years.  I never had a back injury or anything like that.

The suggestion for laying on your stomach is a great one...always worked for me.  Another one is laying flat on the floor, with your calves resting on a chair (kinda like a sitting position, but with you on your back)

Taking the flexeril should help, along with the heating pad.  If it doesn't get better in a few days I would check in with your doctor and maybe see a neurologist.

Hoping you feel better soon and sending hugs your way.
Pretty much all I did today was lay down and sleep. Justin gave me a massage, and I feel a lot better this evening. Shew.

Still walking kinda funny, still have a few "pangs" here and there, but all in all, this is *way* better and I am NOT complaining. LOL

Thanks for all the advice :) I've never told my RD about it, or my PCP so I guess it's time to speak up!
I'd mention it next time your in the RD's office Katie. You'll want to have it in your records for future reference.

I started having trouble with mine in my early 20ties. It's steadly gotten worse over the years. Who knows if yours was just a one time thing or signs of things to come. Either way....I'd mention it.

Sometimes doctors are quicker to take some sort of action when they see a patient has a history. It's easier to get approval for test such as MRI's if a problems been documented.

Glad to hear you're feel better.
