Memory problems! | Arthritis Information

Well get this, I feel like such an idiot, my hubby told me that his boss would be coming around while hubby was taking kids to school, and could I give him the keys?  I said what time is he coming and he said you should know you took the phone call about ten minutes ago!

I really am worried now, there is brain fog and there is brain fog but this!  I still cannot for the life of me remember taking the call!  His wife just came for the keys and I asked her in case my hubby was joking and she said oh my hubby was wondering if you were ok as you sounded awful!!!!!!!  I have been complaining to my GP and she says its nothing to worry about but it is getting worse and I am worried I have alzheimers or something!  Any thoughts?  Regards Janie.  It is not funny anymore.  Does anyone else have it this bad?
janiefx2008-02-24 21:08:50I'll bet you have all forgotten to post!   Janie.???? Yeah but it comes and goes. It's not always that bad. Is it constant for you?Yes, Janie, I have it bad too. I have post-it notes so I write everything down. Plus a dry erase board and a huge calender just to keep track of things. Then somedays I don't even know what day of the week it is. My 20 year daughter is constantly catching me not remembering stuff. I will ask her several times what her plans are for the evening and she gets agrravated and says "geez mom how many times do Ihave to tell you". I don't know if it's the disease itself or the meds I take. I feel for ya, girl!thanks for the replies guys, Katei, it seems to be there quite regularly, I feel really dim! Are you also fatigued? I'm starting to think that the fatigue has more to do with our memory issues than anything.

It seems like us chickys let the fatigue go, as long as the rest of the symptoms are under control. Like it's somehow acceptable.

Maybe you could ask for something for the fatigue, and see if it helps?

Then again, I might be way off base!
janie,
You are quite normal for an AI member  lol!  - you have "Brain fog"
lorrie2008-11-24 00:01:03I had very bad memory problems while I was on Arava. I had it so bad to the point that I forgot my mommy's phone number one day and could not remember it for the life of me. This was a phone number I had called up to 15 times a day and I still could not remember it. I dialed numbers and numbers and numbers for hours and none of them were my moms.

I finally hit the speeddial for hubby's work phone, could not remember that number either, and got hubby and asked him what my mom's phone # was. He said he did not know. So... that night I cried myself to sleep and the next afternoon I dialed her number without even having to think about it.

Hope the fog lifts soon for you.

I have the brain fog too.  I look at something I need to copy down and when I go to write it I already forgot and have to look again.

I'm also having trouble having words come to me when I'm talking. And my tongue gets tied.
Perhaps it isn't just the meds.? Like how many things do you have going on in your life?
Personally, I can't remember not making/keeping lists of things.  I don't regard this as being absent-minded or the possibility of a debilitating brain disorder, etc., but as being organized - a must for me. My memory capacity is inversely proportional to the amount of BS in my life, and directly proportional to the amount of sleep I'm getting.  Every once in a while I just have to go to put the husband in charge of evening chores, take a Lunesta, and go to bed at 8:00AM.  I feel like a new woman when I wake up the next morning. Don't worry about Alzheimers.   You forgot you had just taken a phone call.  You didn't forget what a phone is for.  That's the difference and it's a big one.

When I complained of brain fog to my RD, he thought it was the MTX and switched me from folic acid to luecovorin.  It helped.  Maybe you should ask about it.  That doesn't mean you'll never have foggy moments, I still do at times, but then, I always did!  If you have a lot going on in your life, you're bound to have lapses of memory and the fact that you have a chronic illness makes it that much more likely that you'll have those memory problems from time to time.  Your body is under constant stress and it has to give somewhere, right?  Don't be too hard on yourself.  Besides, you have lots of company here in the same shaky boat, floating in occasional fog.
Jesse882008-02-25 12:50:20I have brain fog too, but the MXT makes me do really stupid things.  I went to lunch with a bunch of friends and we got separate checks.  My friend had correct change laid out and I had a twenty dollar bill.  I reached over gave her my and took her because that is what I do when I don't have change and we don't get separate checks and all the money goes in a pile.  Nobody said anything and she, fortunately, had another so she put my in her wallet and pulled out her other and never said a word.  It was about a minute after I did that that I realized what I had done.  Fortunately, she is a good friend and knows I do dumb things once in a while.  Nevertheless, I was really embarrassed and apologized about forty times.  . I don't re.member seeing them the first time.
I also use post-its constantly and keep a note pad by my bed, on the kitchen counter by the phone, next to my chair in the living room and, of course all over my office. I have an appt calendar where all my appointments and other engagements,  birthdays or any other important thing.  I couldn't manage without it!
When I'm talking to or about my kids or grandkids I ALWAYS say everyone else's name before I  get to the right one.
I once read a cute idea for filling in for the words we forget. The couple would use the word "cracker" for the forgotten word. Example: Do you want to go to the "cracker" today? Couples usually know what the other means anyway and it keeps the mood light. My Sweetie and I still do it from time to time just to be silly.
Don't worry. It sounds like your doctor isn't worried. We are all like that to some degree.
Be well, Nini
