OT a very bad mom! | Arthritis Information

Warning -  This is sad and will make you mad!  Stuff is just getting to me so much lately, I'm sorry if it is too depressing, I just can't believe what parents can do to their kids.

A mom (um, a female who bore children, let's say) in Columbia, SC left her three children alone all night Friday night.  Bad, but this is what makes it heartbreaking and absolutely unforgivable, under any circumstances:

Her 9 yr. old son's birthday was Saturday, and she told him she was going out to buy his birthday present.  Instead, she went out drinking, stayed out all night, and came home drunk in the morning.

The boy and his two younger siblings (one was age 2), called 911 at 7:30 in the morning, and she came home at 8:30.  Drunk.  A birthday to remember, huh?

That is heartbreaking.  Poor kids.  It amazes me that a mom's conscience would allow her to do that.  I feel like crying and I don't even know the kids name.

Poor babies! That mother doesn't deserve children.Oh no.  That is sad.  Breaks my heart.Ah yes, Mother of the Year material.

The children are in protective custody because they could not find ANY RESPONSIBLE ADULTS to care for the kids.  Where are the fathers?  Grandparents?  Anyone?

Also the result of a society that treats sex as a recreational sport with no consequences (such as those pesky babies that get made and too often discarded).  I'm not preaching abstinence... but hell, we don't even seem to teach responsibility anymore!
The mom is totally despicable!  However, calling he names really doesn't solve the problems/issues these children must deal with.
This is what happens when good people rely on the advice of government agencies rather than their own conscience in deciding whether or not they should intervene.
That is awful !
I wonder what those kids have been through before Mom finally got cought .

I have a friend who is a schoolteacher.  She told me she was advised against getting involved if she thought she had an at-risk student.  Told that "teachers aren't social workers."
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. My mother's worked as a teacher aid for *ever* and she has never been told that. In all my years at the daycare, we were never told that. We were stealthy and sneaky sometimes, just so that we COULD call services when it was needed. I can't imagine being told "you have to sit back and just watch" I don't think I could do it!

I agree with Arriscolwell , I have never heard of that too.
What state does this teacher live in ? Are there different laws there ?
I really thought that all states were the " get involved " kinds of states .
Was it near west virginia, by chance? Would make sense..........lol

I hope they take her kids away.  They'll probably be better off.  A woman here in Baltimore will never have the chance to be with her son again.  Why?  Because her son's father who was in a custody dispute with her threw the 3 yr old child off of a 185 ft bridge into the water below.  Then he went home and swallowed cleaning products.  He spent time in the hospital and survived but they still haven't located the boy's body. I think they should throw him off the bridge.

Yea but she'll probably breed again...That's awful and happens alot sorry to say. I was in a foster home for two years back in the 70's because mom and dad were divorced and she went on a date and had a flat tire and the babysitter called the police and they took all 5 of us all girls. They split us up and me, and two sisters (one younger, one older) were stuck in a abusive house. My older sister was raped right in front of me by our foster brother. They were cruel people. The foster program and system in the US sucks. I can tell lots more stories but you get the idea.
My mom wasn't stable to get custody and it took my dad 2 years and lots of $ for a lawyer to be granted custody of us girls. Back then they just didn't give custody to a father with little girls. My mom's sister adopted my 2 older sisters and my dad raised up 3 girls. I always said when I grew up and was a mom I would be the best mom I could be. My husband of 21 years and I had planned on being foster parents before ra but now I know I couldn't do it. I think the child/family services need some major over hauls. Also, responsible people that care should be foster parents not just people out to make some cash. It so sad. Sorry to make this so long but just had to get it out there.
The good news is that the children had a phone and they used it and can get some help now instead of continued suffering. I am proud of this nine year old boy. It may turn out to have been a better birthday than what he had last year or the year before that. The mother will regret it someday because her kids won't be there for her later in life when she will need them. Kids are strong and can go down a good path or a bad one. I actually thanked my mom for what she did because it made me a stronger, better mother. I told her that I would never do what she did. I was a stay at home mom with both kids (15 & 20now) we did 4=h, I was a cub master and girl scout leader, Sunday school teacher, volunteered to read at school or any school event, I also was there for them because my mom never was and I was reliving my childhood. LOL My daughter tells me I am such a kid.! So let's hope that little boy learns something from his screwed up mom and decides when he grows up never to treat a child badly.
Thanks so much for your concern, Snow Owl!  It is true that "lately" anything about children suffering has really gotten to me.  Maybe because my kids aren't giving me enough to worry about right now????

This just story just hurt me so bad, because I know how excited my kids get about their birthdays, and the thought of that mom lying like that....the boy probably never had a nice birthday, and he probably thought this year was going to different.  I just imagine how my kids would be waiting for me to get home, excited, if I said something like that.  I can't fathom not following through, only thinking of myself, not caring about them at all.

I do hope the children are put into a loving home, but I agree with the other posters that there are bad people in the foster care system, too.  My mom was a foster child.  She was one of 14 children taken from her parents, and she actually has very fond memories of being in an orphange, too!  It was better than her home.  She and a sister went to a nice family and stayed there permanently.  They never cried to see their mother or father, only their oldest sister who had taken the most of care them.  My grandparents would arrange visits for them.

But the oldest sister and several of their siblings were put into abusive homes.  Everything was fine for the oldest sister, until her foster mother died, then her foster father started molesting her.  Isn't that awful?

You know what is funny?  My mom said to show this story to my sixth grader!  I was telling my mom how my daughter thinks we are being unreasonable because we won't pay for unlimited texting.
Some people need parenting classes . BIG TIME !!
Sometimes putting kids in foster care is not the answer . Those parents just need to learn how to be parents because they never learned from their parents .
But as we all know there are some that should never have been parents , ever .
