I have been doing a lot of reading lately about Aspartame and Splenda and those sweetners. I am not using them anymore as they are getting a lot of negative press lately. Aspartame turns to formaldahyde in your stomach and these sweetners can actually make you gain weight. How do you all feel about these sweetners? Do any of you use them? There are tons of studies being done and these things actually seem very dangerous to consume. Have any of you heard anything good about these sweetners cuz I sure cannot find anything good about them on the internet. These sweetners are in everything, it is hard to escape. Most sweetners give me migranes, and Splenda is the worst for me...I can tell if I get something with Splenda as it makes my lips and tongue tingle within seconds of eating something.  I have never been able to eat anything with sweetners and have to watch for things with them in them.  Not good in my opinionI don't use them and haven't for the last year or so.  I've read the same literature and decided that I didn't need additional additives.  You're right they're hard to escape but at least I don't add them or order diet drinks.  I drink unsweetened tea or water.  Just figured that the drugs I have to take are hard enough on my body.  Thanks for posting this.   LindyI used to drink the aspertame but became allergic. Makes my head break out in hives and itches like crazy. But i lost water wieght when i quit drinking the stuff ten years ago. Splenda made me run to the bathroom and i mean run. That was not my idea of a fun way to loose wieght. I just drink the stuff with old fasion sugar in it. Walking is a good way to loose wieght.I use Splenda and I haven't had a problem. Out of all the artificial sweetners it is the one that tastes most like sugar to me with no aftertaste.I'm like midnitestich, I use splenda and love it! I also drink lots of unsweetened tea. I usually put splenda on coffee & cereal. I noticed anything different. Maybe it's time to lay off to see what happens.http://www.321recipes.com/joint_pain.html    I saw this a while ago after I was also told that aspartame can cause joint problems.I also have heard that those "fake" sweetners cause a multitude of problems, so I stay away. I won't even buy gum or mints that have those in them----but that tends to be VERY hard! You are right about them being in everything. I cannot stand that--I wish they would stop putting it in everything. It is very hard to get away from it---but I do because I have noticed tht my fibro will get worse if I ingest them and I get bad headaches too. I read one of the posts of someone that said they get headaches too.
With us already having an autoimmune disease---I would avoid these sweetners at all costs. I think more will come out later about these and it won't be good.
