Arthritis in eyes? | Arthritis Information

I just received a call from a friend whose doc told her that she has arthritis in her eyes.  She said that blood seeps into them, and that she has terrible nausea along with vomiting.  She is absolutely miserable.  Has anyone heard of this?   Not to that extent; but I did have a co-worker for a while that was dx'ed after a lot of eye trouble. Sometimes her eyes would be blood red! (K; not quite that bad....but an obvious problem).

I'm not sure of all the details but I do know it can involve the eyes.

The most eye involvement I've had goes with along with Sjogren's and that's basically like dry eye in my case.

Hi GG, I have eye probs from RA, it is called episcleritis, and my eyes go very red and the sclera, (the part of egg whitish cover for the eye actually starts to move itself like when you take the plastic cover off of cheese slices is the only way I can explain it, I have had steroid drops to treat it and voltaren eye drops, when I flare, my eyes flare, they are watching for a worse condition called IRITIS, harder to treat I think.  Hope that helps.  PS also have glaiucoma from steroid treatment.  Had laser therapy as eye pressures should have been 16/17 and were 48.  Regards Janie. Thanks Lovie And Janie.  I had no idea that you could have it in your eyes.  Geez, what next? I get both iritis and esplsceritis(sp?) in my eyes. Optho says that RA can cause a mess of eye issues. I take steriod drops the week before my Orencia to try to prevent them from flaring.

I can't say this enough...people with RA need to see and opthomologist!!My son who has JRA has to get his eyes checked every 6 months to a year for problems that can occur due to his arthritis. And I know if you are on plaquenil, you have to get your eyes checked because that med can affect them. I guess it never ends for us, huh?My sister suffers from iritis.  If left untreated it can cause blindness.i get iritis too, i was diagnosed with RA in Dec 06, and i have had 4 bouts of iritis so far, now on methotrexate i havent had it. The first time i got it, i was treating myself for about 4 weeks+ for conjunctivitis, and it turned out to be really bad iritis in both eyes..so if your having any probs like that with your eyes and youve got RA get them checked!!Yeah I get this bloody redness in the outer corner of my left eye sometimes. I think it's really when I'm stressed though. I go to the eye dr. about twice a year. I am a contact lense wearer too. I have eto take out the contacts for a few days and use steroid drops (PredForte) or some other brand he just prescribed but I can't find
