Been going down, now about 1.75-2mg a day.

Every year my menstraul cycle goes nuts due to pred, so i have to get off it for about 3 months, very painful 3 months.

I am keeping my probiotics, taking fish oil etc. to try and keep myself in working order while pred is out of my body.

I already hurt, but still moveable enough to get to the bathroom etc.

Wish me luck GOOD LUCK !!!Gosh, that sounds like a terrible routine to deal with over and over.  But you seem to be well informed on what you need to do and are doing it carefully and correctly.  You shall be rewarded with minimal discomfort for your efforts.  I command it.  Bubba, that's great news.  I've tapered from 35mg to 5.5mg. in the last year.  I know how hard it is.  I flare a little, then it settles down.  If you can make it through the flares each time you taper then you're doing well.  I'm happy for you.  It's a hard road.  LindyThanks Everyone :)

I definately am going through flairs each time, but not too big thank god :)

Lin, i hope you do well with your taper too.  Going from such a high number should be so frustrating knowing how long you have to do it.  I am just coming down from 5mg and have to go piece by piece (tiny piece) just for that.

Good luck on your taper :)
I've been tapering for the past 3 weeks from 40 MG. As soon as I hit 25 I started having pain, stiffness and clumsy hands.

I see my doctor tomorrow and I think he will tell me to drop another 5. At 20- I don't know how I'll feel. I know intially that's all I was on at my onset and it did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I was in extreme pain.

Do people ever get as bad a flare as their first onset?
Sure they do.  That was me last week.  My knees were, measurably, the size of 16 " softballs, and couldn't move ANYTHING.  Doc jumped me from 10 pred to 30 overnight, put me on injections of the mtx and now I'm heading down the Humira highway.  Weird thing was that literally for the week before I was feeling so much better I was ready to decrease the pred.  Now I've decided to never think about decreasing the pred and just doing it on the hush hush from my mind...perhaps I can trick it!

Oh, and I had to buy a new cell phone because clumsy hands dropped and broke it.  Now THAT isn't something covered by medical insurance.

Lisa M.
mtx, 20 mg/injec. Humira, 30 mg pred, folic acid and lots of chocolate

Oh crap- my worst nightmare!
To Lisa K. from Lisa M.--

Worst nightmare?  I assume you mean breaking the cell phone, right?  Because RA is NOTHING compared to a broken cell and lost communication to my mother's ranting about Curves closing!  Oh, wait, I may be on to something...

Good for you!! It is so hard to get off the Pred. It took me 5 yrs. to get down from 90mg...now I am pred free. Dr. does have me keep a bottle of 1mg and 5mg at home just in case of a flare since I am now the master of tapering back down.

It is crazy that such a cheap, effective drug causes so many issues.Good Luck!

I am almost of the pred... well kinda... my RD said I was going to come off it one day. *confused look* *shrugs shoulders* I just do not remember talking about coming off the pred
