Hi Guys

Searching around the Internet, there seem to be quite a variety of people suggesting that an RA cure (or perhaps they mean remission) is possible through various remedies, natural remedies, diet, supplementation etc.

For those of you who have been suffering for a while and perhaps looked into some of these, and while I've no doubt some of the "miracle cures" are phony, is there truth in some of the information available?  Does the right diet and the right supplementation help with either remission or at least pain relief?

Thanks so much,

JP
Hi JP, welcome!
I just posted similarly under Med. diets.  I'm still floundering looking for other ways to enhance my heath.  There is so much out there!  A cousin sent me a paper she found on it, and what I thought was going to be a discussion about RA and omega fatty acids turned into  a list of, literally 40 different supplements, including, get this NEW ZEALAND GREEN LIPPED MUSSEL EXTRACT/POWDER.  Proble is, while there were promising results, there wer also side effects like Hepatitis, got, stomach upset, etc.

Good luck, and be sure to share what you find out!

Apologies, apparently my fingers aren't working and my typing stinks today, sorry for the above mess of typos!

RDHcRA and the newbie who I can't see the name of in the 'reply' mode -

Can you post the paper?  It sounds like 'herxing' and herxing can be good.  I know some friends that are healing naturally and they herxed on natural antivirals and natural antibacterials.

Newbie who's name I can't see -

Yes, it works but it takes time to figure out what your body needs.  You need to consider traditional meds and work your way back to health via natural as you heal.  I'm doing that via antibiotics and adding in natural things as I verify their effectiveness thru studies etc.  If it's claiming a 'cure' - it's phony.

Diet's - look into gluten free.  There is a ton of research linking leaky gut and diet to the onsets of these illnesses.

Check out www.roadback.org for info about using antibiotics.

Aaaarg!  What did I miss?

The most important - apparently.

Probiotics! Probably the quickest fastest help out there.  Go to the health food store - get the most strains and the most 'live cultures' as possible.  Start slow.  Search here - there have been a ton of posts on how they help people - no matter which side of the fence your on in regards to medications.

Hugs,

Pip

Check out www.peoplespharmacy.com for natural remedies.  The authors are pharmacists who pass along things they have researched (as far as safety) that have helped their readers.

She copied and sent the paper to me, but the http is www.icelandhealth.com/arthritis.html  and it looks as though is is a paper under the title of Fish Oil & Rheumatoid Arthritis

Thanks for the feedback guys.  Wow what a wonderful, supportive helpful bunch of people, not just in this thread, but throughout the forum.  It's really comforting to know and I just want to applaud everyone in their fight against this disease.

I appreciate the info.  I really wanted a sanity check because a distant acquaintance I knew had got herself into remission, and through a mutual friend I aksed what she did.  This is what she wrote:

"In January of 2000 I was diagnosed by a Rheumatoid specialist with Rheumatoid Arthritis.  I was put on Prednisone and Methotrexate and told to take any vitamins.  Because of a science degree studying nutrition, I began to do some research to see what I was lacking and what had caused my diagnosis as I had always looked to food for my answers.  I found that people with RA were low in vitamin E and Selenium.  At the time I did not realise that those were now considered antioxidants.  In April of 2000 I began to prescribe for myself a Nutrilite Multivitamin, Vitamin A, E and C, Glucosamine, Milk Thistle to combat the drugs going into my liver, and Omega 3 Fatty Acids.  Within 4-5 months I was feeling 90% better.  I decided to talk to my physician about getting off the Methotrexate (I had to get a blood test every month in order to renew my prescription as they needed to monitor my liver).

My last bottle of Methotrexate is dated 9/13/2000. So in my 9th month, I was off Methotrexate never to return to drugs again (the bottle of Prednisone is dated 1/18/2000 and I never finished it because after reading about its long term effects, I decided not to even take it).  I returned to see a R.A. specialist (my first doc retired) in November of 2000 who then re-diagnosed me without R.A.  Since April of 2000, I have never missed a day of taking my vitamins because I knew they, along with my faith and exercising, were my solution and still are to keeping drug free / disease free.  Consistency, faith and exercise have stayed with me.  Today I ski, lift weights, do cardio, whatever I want.  In 2000, about this time, I wasn’t sure if we would be able to keep our home because I could hardly climb stairs, I couldn’t take walks with my husband without walking slowly, if I closed my fist, I had to manually open my middle finger because it locked, and the joints in my feet, ankles, knees, hips, arms were always painful.  Now I am still disease free and I continue to take the same supplements I started with."

I want to persuade her to write it all down in more detail in a short book/ booklet.  What do you think?

JP

Amway makes the nutrilite tabs. I took them for a few years and stopped mainly due to the fact they were quite costly. She's fortunate she's found something natural and organically produced which works for her.
