Fizzle Bath | Arthritis Information

Can someone explain what this is?Fizziology 101:  Pick tub which needs to be cleaned.  Fill up about 1/3 with warm/hot bath water.  Pour in about 2 cups Epsom Salts, less or more if you feel like it.  Soak for 5 minutes, try to get submerged to at least your chin.  Add more warm/hot water if needed as you are trying to open your skin pores.  Pour in alot (2 big bottles) of hydrogen peroxide.  A brain in here warned that the OTC HP is not good, it's called something else the pharmacist has to have in stock or order.  A "pure" hydrogen peroxide.  (I knew they were holding back the good stuff for themselves.)  Lay back and enjoy a Fizzle bath for 30 minutes.  Try to soak all parts :)  Then use the left over solution to easily clean the bath tub.  It's a perfect combo LOL  C

Or the Short Cut Method:  Fill basin with warm water and 'some' epsom salt.  Soak body part(s) in need of nice, soothing soak in it.  Enjoy as long as you like.  Remove body part and pour hydrogen peroxide over it.  Smile in amazement if you fizz.  Keep pouring until fizzing stops.  Enjoy a relaxing, soothing sensation, even if you are fizzless.I soak in epsom salts then get out and spray the HP on with a spray bottle, leave if for 5 minutes and then rinse. I think OTC HP is okay, it's the industrial stuff used as natural bleach and cleaner you have to look out for, because it contains heavy metals. Is this supposed to be like a cleansing bath, a detox? I'm in the "whatever-you-want-it-to-be" camp.  Felt WONDERFUL on my OA, but no fizz for me.  Fascinating that my JRA daughter fizzes but not everywhere, just her affected joints.  Fizz or no fizz, I recommend it!I gotta ask ladies, does it bleach your "carpet"?  So I just pick up some of the hydrogen peroxide in the brown bottles? Or do I ask for a special type? Oh, and another question. Does anyone do this in their jet tub? Seems it would be more effective. The Epsom Salts are supposed to open the pores and this encourages acids to leave the body.
The body gets rid of acids by urine, sweat or breathing, so anything that opens the pores in this way is effective.    The less acids the less inflammation.
The hydrogen peroxide is supposed to oxygenate the blood, and I've read that "pathogens and viruses" do not like oxygenated blood.

I have two baths a week.   I use one large cup of "human" grade epsom salts (US measure) and 5 oz of 35% food-grade hydrogen peroxide.    35% food grade hp is very dangerous stuff and can cause severe burns if not handled carefully.    I buy the food grade hp on the internet and it is a bit expensive, but the real exponents of hp therapy all say that this is the only grade to use.  However, for a couple of years previous I was using the ordinary 3% stuff bought from the pharmacist.  (the 35% stuff is ok as long as it is diluted in the ratio 1:10)

I would happily recommend the fizzy baths to anyone , as long as they take care, particularly if they are using food grade hp.

Ana

Oh wow...just took my first Fizzle bath and was amazed...all the joints that are flaring bubbled like a champagne glass...is that suppossed to happen??  What does it mean??OMG!  You're the first non-APer to fizzle!

Quick, somebody take notes!  Have you been on antibiotics for anything?

Pip

Is that the sulpha with or without antibiotics?

Plaq - did any non-APers on Plaq fizzle or non-fizzle!

Oslo, I swear this is Oslo territory!

Pip

I did not fizz.
But will try again , I dont know what I did wrong .
Warm / hot water lots of epsom salt lots of peroxide .
I want my flaring joints to fizzle like tenderjoints.
Nope, no antibiotics in well over a year...and I am pretty sure my sulfasalazine does not have antibiotics in it.  I take it you are suppossed to fizzle???Oh Miami, I am sorry...give it another try....and here is me scared in the tub wondering if it is a good or bad thing to fizzle....Oh, we like fizzle!!!!   But so far, only APers fizzed.  But maybe that is because only APers have tried it?

My AP/JRA daughter fizzed.  Nobody else in my family fizzed, but nobody else has it.

We need more volunteers!  We need a sampling of all meds, please.  It feels great, fizz or not, I can vouch for that!
Sulfasalizine - looks like it has antibiotics in it, but our ped rheum says it isn't an antibiotic.  It has been discussed here, I'm still not clear, but don't think it ever used to treat an infection, maybe that is the distinction?I am trying this tonight!!!
*** My thumbs were flaring up today, we'll see if they fizzle!
cah14182008-03-13 10:42:05Yeah, Pip sent me a link showing that Sulfasalazine has an antibiotic in it....I never knew that.  Looks like a lot more of us are on a type of AP and didn't know it.  Very interesting....Yeah I quit taking sulfa.  It made me feel 100 times worse.  probably a herx, but whatever it was I didn't like it.  It probably does have antibiotics in it.

edited because I can't keep up with the board today. I am a little slow! lol
cah14182008-03-13 10:47:32Well, Plaquenil is an antimicrobial, too, but it's not exactly AP. But there you have it! Antibiotics+ES/HP bath=fizzle and sizzle. If I don't fizzle tonight I will take my sulfa for a few days and then try again. Maybe it won't make me miserable this time either!OK I just did my hands in the sink and used my husband as a control. I didn't use epsom salts first and I only had the 3%.

At first nothing happened but after a few minutes I got tiny bubble ALL over my hands and wrists. if I moved them then it fizzed and came to the surface like champagne.

My husband who is healthy as a horse had a few bubbles, none you could really see unless he moved. Nothing like what happened to my hands.

Not sure what this means.

Oslo, it means we're all going to Oslo!

Christina - if Sulfasalazine makes you herx - take probiotics and keep going.  Slow and steady wins the race!  You NEED proboitics with ANY antiobiotic - and how much do you want to bet your pain level drops.

Pip
P.S.  Check out my reply to Katalina on her thread.  Should be top of the heap now.
