fish burps | Arthritis Information

Can anyone recommend a specific brand of fish oil that does not cause fish burps?   I just bought GNC "dha" because I thought the dha was isolated from the rest,but no, it still burps like fish.  I also gave lemon flavored fish oil a shot (GNC as well).  Ugh-- lemon fish burps!  I read so often how important omega 3s from are, but I can't do it.  I do fine with flaxseed oil but it is supposedly inferior.Get enteric-coated capsules.  They don't release until they hit the small intestine, so in addition to reducing/eliminating fih burp, you absorb more.
Put your fish pills in the freezer.

You wont have the burps when they are frozen.

It's important to buy fish oil where the turnover of product is rapid, because it does have a tendency to go rancid. I have good results with Webber Natural products, but I don't know if those are available where you are. Rancidity is not the only cause of fishy burps and stomach issues from omega supplements.  Even Webber Naturals offers enteric-coated omega capsules, which they say are specifically formulated to reduce fishy afterburps and enhance absorption:

Choosing the right foods and nutrients to support our health is essential. Ensuring that those foods and nutrients are adequately absorbed is also essential. Enteric coating supports proper absorption of the fish oils by placing a protective barrier over the softgel that does not dissolve in the stomach, allowing the nutrients a safe-passage through the acidic stomach environment. The enteric coating then breaks down and releases the Omega-3 fatty acids into the intestines. This is optimal as the intestines are the main ‘nutrient-absorption zone’ for the body, transporting the fatty acids from the digestive tract into the blood vessels for their various roles around the body.

This special coating serves many functions including:

-prevention of possible stomach irritation;
-elimination of repeat burping that can occur with fish oils; and
-protection of easily damaged nutrients and enzymes from the stomach’s acids for better absorption.

The Omega-3 nutritional category has been associated with heart health because EPA provides some ability to lower cholesterol. More importantly, EPA has an anti-inflammatory effect on the lining of the coronary arteries of the heart. Coronary inflammation is considered to be a central factor in heart disease risk. EPA also displays a beneficial blood thinning effect that lowers the risk of inappropriate blood clotting.

That's good info, JR. I actually hadn't noticed they were enteric coated. A few times I tried fish oil I bought at CostCo and other brands but I didn't have as good results. But like everything we take, we probably all respond to different things.Costco uses the same omega source as Webber (and Bumblebee!):

It's up to the individual retailers to make sure stock is rotated. None of the products on that page are the Webber Natural products I use. I use Fish Oil, or Wild Salmon Oil. I'm sure there are lots that are just as good, though.I buy my fish oil tablets at Target---they sell some that won't give you the fish burps--just look for ones that say that on the label. Seems to work for me.My doctor said to keep them frozen, it works great!I buy the HMJ Omegas at WalMart.  They are lemon flavored and you only have to take one which helps but the biggest trick was just posted:
FREEZE 'EM!!

I also take mine at night.

They are from fish caught in a specific area-I forget where. She says her knee is now pain free.

Has anybody heard of the fish coming from some place exotic as being more effective?

I'll have to ask my mom next time I talk to her where they came from.
I tried different fish oils and freezing them but no luck there.  Then I tried NKO Krill oil.  It is very high in Omega 3's.  I started out taking 2 a day and now I just need one.  I  just got 5 stars -  excellent on my cholesterol test !
