The Simplest Of Meditation | Arthritis Information

Meditation is something we can all use to help with our arthritis. It certainly helps with stress and stress contributes to our RA symptoms. I see it as the other part of prayer...prayer to talking to God, meditation is listening.

It's been proven that mediation can change your brain waves and your heart rate so in my view it could definitely help with inflammation.

I have a visualization somewhere that is for Arthritis sufferers and when I can find it I will post it. Until then, though here is a simple Centering Meditation that is so easy to do. Anything that relaxes our minds and bodies has to help with RA, if one actually does it regularly. Hopefully this will be useful for those who are interested.

Sit any way that you feel comfy, so long as your spine is straight.

Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Take very long and very deep breaths through your nose.

Each time you breathe in, hold it for 2 or 3 seconds and then slowly exhale. Continue this breathing until you feel very calm and peaceful. This usually takes 3-5 minutes
( but that is just me).

Take as long as you need. It is different for everyone. Just go at your own pace.

You can also use sound to center yourself. Just sit quietly and ring a small bell or chimes. Focus on the soft sound and breathe deeply. Keep making the noise until you feel centered.

When I find I am feeling stressed I meditate.
I do it anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour . It's easy to just loose yourself for a while.
It is easy to loose yourself, Maimi. And it helps our mind and bodies and spirits in so many ways.

edited because I can't spell today!
Cordelia2008-03-02 18:43:27You are so right !! Very useful tool it is, which is why I thought I would share a simple one with the board. Does it count if you can lose yourself in a song or songs? :-D I'm *super* at doing that. I can actually feel my blood pressure drop too. That too, is meditation Katie. Losing yourself in anything is meditative.  I love doing that. :) The song changes often, but there's always one that I can listen to on repeat and just "lose myself" in.

And I have a SPECTACULAR sleep CD that I do the same with. It has soft soft soft white noise and then some really light music that literally has an ebb and flow to it. Like a very slow heartbeat. That thing knocks me out in 10 minutes flat!
Actually, here:

This is the sleep CD

They also have ones for meditation and quiet times etc etc. I've listened to a few of them back when I worked at the music store. I only bought the sleep one because I was having issues falling asleep. Not anymore! I've been using this CD for almost 3 years now.

Here's the other CD's they have:

Oh oh, and I have one other sleep CD I use, this one:

Katie, that sounds wonderful, I think I shall try and get hold of that myself. Thank you for sharing.  The deep breathing exercise also helps to lower my blood pressure.Exactly, Punkie, meditation can literally affect our physiology.  It's something I have practiced for a long, long time but realised lately in the throes  of  this  ruddy  disease  that  I had  stopped  practicing.  _popupControl();
