Howdy Ya'll!
Has anyone had one of these? I had one today and for once I got good news from a Doctor!
Robin
That is GREAT to hear, Robin that you have bones of an 18 year old. And better news to hear that the hurricane victims with RA are going to get their probably way over due meds!
Hi Robin. Thanks for sharing some good news. Texas is sure helping tons. Karen mentioned it in another thread, earlier.
I had one of those bone scans recently. Mine is full-blown osteo.......spelling bad. Didn't upset me to hear, like the RA did. Figured, whatz one more.
However, I am happy to hear you have "young bones". Now you can fall down all you want and not worry. :-) Osteoporosis - found spelling on this board I've had one too; and have osteopenia at age 34. It's a silent thing they say. They claim it's in my hips....and I do have a horrible time with them; but they say that's RA. I've thought about all those folks in that hot; damp...humid weather who have RA sleeping on the concrete...or a cot if their lucky. I'm happy to hear some of them will be getting the help they need. I imagine there's many of them still out there that won't be getting what they need and my heart goes out to them. What a difficult time they are facing. Everything they have been through I can just imagine the physical pain that are sure to be in right now. If you happen to run into any of them at the clinic please tell them that everyone in your internet support group will be praying for them. Glad to hear your news Robin. That's really great for you. Don't you question why they aren't treating it now Wayney? You're younger than I am....and it's already osteoporosis. I'd think at this point in your life it would be in your best interest to at the very least be on Fosomax. My doctor insisted I take HRT and certainly suggested calcium (Which I'll admit; I'm bad not to take). There's also another medication that can be taken just once a month. I'd get a second opinion here Wayney. This could leave you severely disabled far too early. I forgot about your insurance issues. Just be careful. I know osteoporosis everyone associates with your back....but it's your bones in general. I know you know more about it than any of us; but my doctor even warned me to be careful because I could be more likely to break even a wrist in a fall quicker than someone like Robin....and her 18 year old bones
Dang I am so glad somepart of me is still 18! Everything else feels much older. I am going to send all the good wishes I can to any flood victims I come across. The Astrodome is now full, and people are now being sent to our convention center and to San Antonio and Dallas/Ft Worth. The sad thing is already people in the astrodome are robbing each other and there have been reports of rapes in the dome. I live a few miles from the astrodome and people have been car jacked at gone point not far from me. Come on!!!
I pray that the bad element in the group does not make it all worse for the people who just need help. Robin I'm afraid that's exactly what's going to happen. I just talked about that in another post in response to something Wayney posted about. All of the folks there have to go somewhere. They will be coming to the surrounding States. The majority of the people there have lost everything. Some are using that to excuse their barberic behavior. They act as if this excuses what they are doing. Stealing food; ok...we understand that; but this is far beyond stealing food for the hungry. Someone that's lost absolutly everything feels like they have nothing left to lose. This is only the beginning. More than a million people have been displaced. Their extremely angry...and with our governments lack of early response I'm afraid of what's getting ready to happen right here in our own country. I just hope our Country is ready for it. If what's happening there is any indication; I predict not. LuluSome have been sent to N.O from Iraq plus we have a lot here in the
states...national guard is there too..finally today I see good things
happen. Also there was a story on our local news in Orlando, some kids
from the hurricane area are here and starting school already. I saw a commercial for Actonel on the TV just tonight. I didn't know what it was. You know how they talk about the medication and say "Ask your doctor" but rarely talk about what exactly it is. I live outside of Charlotte and we've got a lot of people coming here. Several are in Harrisburg; the small town right beside us. Their kids are starting school here too.
Back on the topic, I had a bone density test last October...all was
fine and it surprised me. Figured I'd have some damage. My RD
prescribed Actonel to help the bones stay healthy.
