AP - Minocin Question | Arthritis Information

I am kinda hesatint to start back on the Minocin. Not so much because of the light headedness, but because it also caused me to have abdomenal pain and my abdomen felt more bloated and kinda like it was weighed down, if that makes any sense.

I have already been having a lot of abdomenal pain as of lately, but it was not as bad as when I was taking the Minocin.

I was just wondering if anyone else experienced abdomenal pain from Minocin?

I know I should have mentioned this to my RD, but like I said since December my brain has not been functioning well and everything from December to a few days ago are like blurs. I just cannot remember what I done from day to day, and then some days I have moments of clearity and remember things, I forgot about.
If you take probiotics with it, you probably won't have that pain. Joonie - I had the lightheadedness (very weird) and my stomach/bowels love to throw a fit every few days no matter what.  But I did discover I was on too high of a dose of minocin (2 100s twice a day).  I am down to pulsing 100 mg MWF.  I know I am hypersensitive to any new substance, and am a small woman, so I work very hard with every doctor to try the lowest possible on me first, then build if it seems like its working.  But this 7 days a week minocin was way too much for me.  CathyIt's too much for a lot of people, except for the scleroderma people, and they tend to not herx so it doesn't matter to them.  :-)

Joonie - the probiotics are really important to AP.  If you're having stomach issues now, you should think of trying to see of those help NOW.  If it does, then starting Minocin should be mild once you get the stomach issues back on line.

I got the dizziness on Zith, not Mino - go figure.  LOL  But it goes away pretty quickly.  And, the brain fog is the first to go on AP.  Except for me.  I GOT depressed on Mino.  7 1/2 weeks of weepiness.

I'm all better now.

Joonie, I wonder if you've ever considered trying a gluten free diet for a few months. I don't know why but when I read your post I was suddenly suspicious that you're gluten intolerant. With some people it's not immediately obvious but when they stop eating gluten they notice a vast improvement in their condition after about 3 or 6 months. Gluten free is a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it it's not that difficult. Thanks, for the replies guys.

Gimpy - For that week I took the Minocin, I also ate a 1/2 cup of that yougurt you told me about and after eating it, the pains and all would feel much worse. I was going to buy a probiotic to take, but they were not cheap and I was unsure of which to get. So I bought some of the live culture yougurt.

I might try the pulse. RD only put me on it to help with my swelling and well... right now I need everything I can to help me take away and keep away the swelling on my right knee. Now I'm thinking maybe you're dairy intolerant, too!

You really need to get some probiotics, somehow. Brine pickles (made with celtic sea salt, not vinegar) are cheap and easy but how much of them can you eat with their high salt content?

BTW, you don't need a pickler to make them, just a jar and some salt.Hey that might explain why I stray away from wholemilk. If I drink more than one cup for wholemilk or any milk that is not Fat-Free... I get a really bad headache and not feel well. But I can drink Fat-Free milk all I want and nothing happens to me. causes can range from extremely severe life-threatening conditions (e.g. acute appendicitis, abdominal aneurysm), to various less serious conditions (e.g., heartburn, reflux, gastroenteritis, etc.) Any symptom of abdominal pain needs prompt professional medical advice. Sudden and/or very severe abdominal pain should be treated as a medical emergency.

It is often helpful to categorize abdominal pain into more specific types such as lower abdominal pain, upper abdominal pain, left abdominal pain, right abdominal pain, epigastric pain (pain behind the breastbone, such as in heartburn, reflux, or GERD), side pain, and other types of abdominal pain.

Abdominal pain is a very common symptom, and also common in children. Unfortunately, because there are so many possible causes of abdominal pain, and many cases are not serious, many cases of acute appendicitis are misdiagnosed each year as gastroenteritis or some other similar condition, especially in children and infants. Although appendicitis is an uncommon condition, it can be fatal. And there are many other serious conditions that may cause abdominal pain.

Joonie -

Many times when you start probiotics you can get some serious cramping, gassiness, bloating going on.  It's normal - especially with these diseases probably because we've so messed up our guts with our meds.  When you said it got worse after the yogurt - to me that said (not dissing GoGo) that you are REALLY low on good gut bacteria.  It's like you threw your body into shock.  The good news is that if you keep going, it will even out and then go away.  Most people say that all stops within 2 weeks and they then feel so much better than they did before starting.  So...do you think you could last 2 weeks?

I also think multiple strains are really important when starting probiotics.  Go to any health food store and look in their refrigerator section.  Anything with multiple strains and 'live cultures'.  Whole Foods has Jarrow with FOS (did nothing for me) so I use their Solaray Multidophilus 12.  Then have more choices but I haven't tried them.  Others here talk of Florastor.  Start with one pill with food.  This should make you 'regular' too!

Hugs,

Pip
As for the dizziness - that is also a common starting side effect of Mino - it goes away in a few months.

Joonie - look at the bottom of page 1 too, please.
