Eye doctor - question | Arthritis Information

Hi guys! I went to the eye dr yesterday to get a baseline on my eyes before starting Plaquenil and I have a question for you. He said that he rarely sees eye side effects, but when he does it is in people like me (small). Because of this statement, I am a litle worried about taking it. I kind of like my eye sight (ha ha). Anyone of yu ever had problems with your eyesight being affected on this? TIA!

The eye problems from plaquenil are VERY slim...but I have never heard anything about it happening more to small people...hmmm..weird

Anyway...that's why you'll be having regular eye exams...if there's a problem you go off of the plaquenil.  You should also be given a chart with the amsler grid so you can check for any problems.

Yep, went to eye Dr for eye exam to start plaquenil and Dr said it was a rare side effect. I was not really on Plaquenil long enough to find out if it would effect my vision. I was on it maybe 3 months before being bumped to Sulfasalazine, which I was allergic to that, and then I went to MTX, then Arava.
