Kinda OT: My Alien Baby Picture | Arthritis Information

Share

I have been looking at my hands a lot lately, mainly wondering why the heck my RD wants to get MRI's of a part of my body I do not even complain about. I mean I can see my knees, or even my hip, but why my hands.

After I looked at them, I got a flash back of one of my baby pics, where my hands are clearly visible and I remember thinking they looked alien like.

I think I am half alien, and my mommy was abducted by aliens and I am the product of the abduction

See the fingers? I have NEVER seen another babies fingers like mine. Not even my own kids. There fingers were chubby and short and not even looked alien like.

Your fingers do look like they were affected by the disease from birthYes, I would agree with that Lisa.  My son's fingers were long and skinny, but did not have the unnatural curves in them.

You are not an alien...just more of the effects from JRA.  I am glad they are going to do an MRI of your hands just to keep an eye on them.
You sure were an alert baby!!  You look wide awake and fully aware of what's going on!He probable wants to see what kind of damage is going on. They can see alot in the hands.Joonie - the look on your face is hilarious, like WHAT THE HECK is going on here?  LOL  I would take that picture with you to every doctor's appointment and hand it to them first thing.  You then won't have to worry about having to explain or freeze up trying to let them know what you are coping with.  But that expression, that made my day :)  wow joonie! That is so interesting. It makes me want to go back and lok at my baby pictures.
You should definitely show that to your doctor.
Are your fingers still long and skinny?  I remember when I was little everyone commented on my hands...before we found out about the JRA. They would say "look at those long skinny fingers, perfect for piano playing" LOL I don't know if that was meant to be a compliment!!
Hurm.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

HHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.........................Christina..................

I got told that too. Joonie, did you ever get that comment????? I'm always curious in trends.......
Katie, I always HATED hearing that. And I heard it ALL the time.  I bet Joonie heard it too!
ps did you actually play the piano? I did! lol I guess I had to give in ater hearing it so many times and guess what? I was terrible at it!
LoL No I never did. But I started hearing that when I was in single digits.

I actually posted pics of my hands (currently) on another thread. I forget the title. Something like Phatgirl - my hands.

Or something. LOL
You do look like you could be a piano player as a baby, Joonie...cute baby photo!Well, the fact that you are actually an alien explains so much!
I probably look so alert because they promised me a bottle and some sleep.

Hey... I was showing hubby that picture last night and I was like "I was not such a cute baby, like our kids were." Then he got that look, as to say They got their looks from him. I just looked at him and said "shut up". He was like "I didn't say anything."

My sisters oldest son... he was an U-G-L-Y baby, even my sister said he was the ugliest baby she ever seen. I have seen his baby pics, and he was kinda ugly, but when we were in school together most of the girls thought he was a hottie. *rolls eyes*

Nope do not recall anyone ever saying I had "piano fingers" when I was small. I have a hard time remembering things from childhood. The only thing anyone ever pointed out wrong with me was my limp. That is what sparked all the getting seen about for JRA.

Like I said... I have been wanting to post pics of my hands since I went to RD last time. Mainly because of the MRI talk, but something I FINALLY got an answer to about my left middle finger. She said it was because I had injured that finger some how and it ruptured the tendon and then it stopped growing because I did not get the injury fixed. She said there was no fixing it now.

Both Hands a year ago while on Pred Blister Pack. Notice my left hand... my middle finger is almost the same length as the rest of the fingers next to it. It has been like that since I was 8, I believe. I jabbed that finger while cleaning out a 12 gallon fish tank. It kinda hurt when I done it, it swelled up really big the next day and was painful. Did not get it seen about, I do not even think I told my mom about it.

Joonie your fingers as a baby look long.  And remind me of fingers that people say they are double jointed.  (I have heard there is no such thing but I don't know).

Your knuckle in the other one reminds me of the funky larger than normal bone I have on my wrist.  Nothing wrong with it.  Some comment boy that bone really sticks out.  Just grew goofy I guess.  Maybe your knuckle is the same way grew odd.  But when things grow odd or different it can really lead to problems as I have found out.
No my knuckles on my right hand have recently become that way since my RA has been out of control. Actually my right middle finger the knuckle closest to the hand there is only half a knuckle there. The whole right side of that knuckle is flat, no bone like on the left side of that same knuckle.

I do have decreased bone density in my right hand. It is visible on x-rays. It is where my last two fingers are they have dropped and you can see how my hand starts to curve inward when I have them at rest. That is what my sister notices and worries more about is how my hands look and how they curve inward. I never paid it no attention until, she mentioned it to my RD one visit. RD said it was from decreased bone density, which I already knew that from my last x-rays with old RD.

JSNM- It is really weird that you said that about your finger nails! With all this talk of trends in hands I was wondering if anyone else had odly strong finger nails. I have the strongest finger nails of anyone I know. Thick hair too and I have never broken a bone. You would think that the RA would make our bones and stuff weak.

I also have this weird ball on the top of my mouth it is a hard ball. The doc once told my dad that I would never get osteoperosis because of it. I think someone made that up. But I have a feeling it does have to do with my strong bones.  But i just saw that Joonie said she is losing bone density in her right hand :(

OH and Joonie I also have 2 fingers that I hurt when I was little and now they are all ruinedboth bent and swollen to about 5 times the size at the joint. I know if I didn't hurt them they wouldn't have gotten messed up.
HEY. I used to have that in my mouth...........

It went away when I got my tongue pierced. Weird? I have super strong nails and hair too. Always have. And no change once I had to cut out so much dairy either, so I dunno what that means. lol
This is definitely getting interesting.  I grew two large knobs on the outside of both wrists decades ago.  And my bottom of my mouth has some sort of abnormality the dentist caught about 7 years ago of bony growth.  But the ball at the top of my mouth was a fungal infection, and its gone now, thankfully.  Maybe because I was born so far North, my bone growth is upside down LOLlol

well my ball is permanent I was born with it.  lol Its like a dome in my mouth. IT's big! I forget what it is called. My dentist told me once.  I don't have a hangy ball. I have this instead! Talk about being weird! I can't ever get dentures because of it! I hope I don't lose my teeth!
cah14182008-03-07 05:54:55Tori! That's what it is called!

I have to wonder if that has some connection to RA. I mean people often get those nodules with RA aren't those and overgrowth of bone as well?
