RA and prednisone | Arthritis Information

Oh heavens! I started taking prednisone yesterday and had one of the best days ever since I got this evil disease. Holy toledo, I woke up this morning and I feel like I have been hit by a train. I mean EVERY joint hurts all at the same time and God help me, it is awful! I ate two crackers and then popped my dosage this morning as quickly as I could get it in my mouth. Is this normal? If so, I am going to wake up at 4am and take it! After having this disease for almost 20 years I find it best to take the Prednisone at night before bedtime with a small amount of food.Dr's always say take it in the AM but that never worked for meProving that everyone is different, I find it helps if I take it in the morning.  Tried taking it at night and really couldn't tell the difference until the afternoon.experiment until you find the best time for you.  I did wake up early to take meds so I could function while workingSome people have a hard time sleeping if they take it at night....but I'm not one of those people. You might be though. Yep you might have to play with the timing of the dose. It's already pretty 50/50 just from these posts. But on a whole, it really depends on the person. Some people feel pretty wired on Pred, so they have to take it in the AM. Otherwise they can't sleep. Other people, it doesn't effect that way, and taking it at night ensures that they can get up easily, quickly, and feeling pretty good.

So try it, and see what happens!! :)
For me I have to take the pred in the morning before 1pm or I do not sleep.  The morning works well for me, but it depends on when your adrenal gland releases adrenallin to wake you up.  Experiment...and find what works.   Try the evening dose on the weekend in case it interrupts your sleep! When I was having bad mornings the doctor had me take the bulk of the dosage in the AM but 10 MGS at dinner which really helped.

I ended up taking it that way, because if I took it when I woke up with daughter for school and take my dose I would not be functional until around 3pm, when the swelling would start to go down a little and the stiffness would let up.

Now instead of me having morning stiffness, I have what I can evening stiffness. Which is when the pred wears off and I swell and gel, until my next dose. My symptoms usually start to return by 6pm and only gets worse from there until time for my next dose.

Good luck with finding your happy medium with when to take the pred.
Congrats on having a great day!  You are seeing some answers, and you deserve the break.
