This was on AF.  If you follow the links you find out there is comensation...so those who got sick after the HPV or Hep vaccines have some options.

Now everybody imagine Pip running around in circles yelling "they know!!!"

Pip who is feeling a bit more vindicated!

Edited because I can't spell vaccine.
Pip!2008-03-07 11:08:32HPV isn't covered yet.

This program actually makes it more difficult to recover a judgement.  The fund was set up because vaccine makers were stopping production due to the cost of lawsuits (proven or unproven injuries).  The govt took over the liability.  Now you have to prove your case to government medical experts where before it was to a generally sympathetic but not scientifically trained jury.
Since the program began only 150 people a year have been awarded judgement which is an exceedingly small when compared to the multi million numbers of vaccines given each year.

And as for the "they know" thing.  Whats the suprise...just like any medication there is a potential risk with vaccines but no matter what,  the risk is still smaller than the number of deaths and severe damages that could be caused by the illnesses we protect against
It's not that simple...

Lynn - "The 9-year-old girl, Hannah Poling, had an underlying condition that may have been worsened, triggering her autism-like symptoms."  Isn't that the description of US?  I mean, you believe whole heartedly in genes being soooo important to these disease...yet if that's true, the LAST thing a person with these diseases in their FAMILIES should do is get an unnecessary vaccine.

Yes, Buckeye, I agree.  I'm just saying it's amazing to me how many people think there disease was triggered by a vaccine but the science types keep saying 'rare'.  I'm saying 'not so rare' and we need to know the odds before we subject ourselves to this stuff.  But, since nobody is keeping records, how are we going to do that?

And it's sad that the number is only 150 people.  Still, it's a start.

But like with Gardisil, that vaccine only covers a few strains and it's being pushed like its no tomorrow.  We don't NEED that one.  I had my daughter get all the regular vaccines - but now I question that.  Sigh.

Pip
P.S.  Saw your response re: Palindromic - yes, you're right, but for us, the pain is so much more.  Not dissing anybody's pain, but I am saying 2 shots of morphine should do SOMETHING.  LOL
how do you know the pain of palindromic is so much more...you've never experienced regular RA.

And I don't disagree that vaccines may be a possible trigger of auto immune diseases...I just don't buy into the conspiracy theories..but maybe I'm just not as cynical as you are I experienced regular RA when I poisoned myself with Aleve.  I switched to both sides and one toe.  I'm glad as heck THAT's gone now.  Like I needed both!

Yes, can you believe it?  I was soooo pro-western med and 'avoid the crackpots' as one could be.  Nobody is more surprised at my joining the conspiracy peeps as me.  Or my friends.  My LA friends are all saying "I told you so!"  Well, at least I have a lot of company.

Well, I would have used a smily but it wouldn't let me.

Hugs,

Pip
pain is personal and impossible to compare from person to person as is someone's response to medication.  I don't know if saying someone didn't react to a med is truly validating a pain level.  Needless to say inflammatory arthritis can be exceedlingly painful.  It doesn't matter what the cause or the type is when you are dealing with the pain

Buckeye - I'm AGREEING with you.  I'm also saying there is research out there (scant tho it is) saying we're worse.

My pains worse than your pain!  NaNaNaNaNa!

God, could you imagine if we got into THAT BS?

OK, my real question is how do I get you into the 'conspiracy camp' and turn you into a force for good?

Pip

now come on Pip every conspiracy theory needs a devil's advocate how else can you keep arguing your point
How does believing some vaccines can trigger underlying conditions qualify as a "conspiracy theory"?

All I know is my RA started after I got vaccinated for Hep B. I don't know if there's a connection but there's certainly no proof that there ISN'T.good grief Gimpy..I was teasing Pip about her use of the term "they know" ...she figured that outThe whole vaccine/autism debate is difficult. I just finished lecturing my bio students about it. I am not going to claim to know who is right.
Is it the timing? Autism usually appears between 2-3yrs and that is the same time that shots are given. Why is autism on the rise in countries that don't even give regular vaccines?

As for us..no clue either. I know that many people do claim that vaccines were given around the time of RA developing. I do wish that they would do further study on this. Personally, I think it is a conicidence. However, many of you have some very convincing timing-does make it hard to argue. I think our bodies are just so complex and so much is yet unknown. However, even the parents of the 9 year old girl are pro-vaccines. You only have to look at history and see what would happen without them.

Has anybody ever asked their RD? Maybe I missed that in a post. Just curious. I would love for us to get answers.I saw that. My local news station interviewed a local parent who said that they felt the mercury in the vacine caused there child to be autistic. He started spinning in circles and eventually had quit talking. Good news he is about 10 or 11 and had the mecury removed from his body and had speech therapy and now is fine. I love happy endings. But it is a shame he had to go through this. It's called Thermasil(I think that is how it is spelled) Now, vaccines no longer include that. I think there are still a few flu vaccines but very few. I know my pediatrician's don't have it.

They did discover a gene a few months ago that they are also linking to autism.I just met a woman who adopted 4 boys with autism and works with neurofeedback in helping kids with it.  Interestingly, she says its not the mercury, it's the fact that they give the vaccine INTO THE GUT.  Now, I haven't had time to research that at all...but if that's true, then the gene thing is not that important.  Think about it...if different genes kick on then all these diseases REALLY are the same.  So my kid gets vitiligo (her weakest gene) but I get PRA (my weakest gene).  This woman says its STREP in the gut that causes autism.  I really need about a week of nothing to do so I could research to my hearts content.  Katie is right, I need a job as a researcher.  Just who would hire me to research AI diseases?  LOL

Pip
Why would they give a kid a shot in the gut? My kids always got them in there upper thigh.I don't know Milly - I know my daughter got some in her thighs.  This is what this woman was saying that treats autism kids.  So...l need to research.  I did some preliminary searching on PubMed but got overwhelmed on what I was seeing.  So, that means digging and who has time?
