I've said a cajillion times that the day after I started Enbrel along with my mtx, I've been pretty much back to normal.  Except for the occasional flare.  So yesterday my knee was feeling a little funny, now it's GIGANTIC.  Last night, my elbows started hurting, now one of them id flaring the other hurts too, just not as bad.  My hands are swollen, and now if feels like one of my ankles is joining the rest.   Oh, and my shoulders now have the feeling like they are also on the short list tonight.

What's going on?  This is like the old days before meds, and it hurts.  I mean the kind of hurt that makes you cry.  What am I going to do?  I'm scared for what tonight is going to bring.
I have a back up PRED and use that if I think things are getting of control...

Rightly or wrongly I don't want to go back to the beginning.
Call the emergency number to RD's get some pred and have some one get your pain pill bottle opened for you. Oh i am so sorry. But try to stay comfortable i know it is immpossible. You need some pred and the doc will have to fiqure out what else you need. Call now!!Stephen, I do have too.  A whole burst and taper that I got at Christmas time but never used.  Thanks, I forgot about that.  I haven't taken any pred  in over a year.  Back before I ever found AI.  Now I'd rather avoid but I'd rather avoid one of those awful nights more.  Dis someone say you're supposed to take it in the morning?I'd be doing the Pred pack as Bodak suggested and calling your both you PCP and RD as soon as possible. It is obvious your flaring badly and they need to do some readjustments.

Thanks Milly.  I'm going to go check my med box and see what the directions say.  Thanks you guys.Yes call the doctor! What you are explaining is my worst nightmare-having that original level of pain coming back.

Elevate your leg for the swelling, get out the icy hot, leave the lids off your  medicine bottles (unless you have small children).

I keep forgetting to ask the pharmacy for non- childproof caps.

Hope your flare goes away fast
I think people take it in the morning because it keeps you awake. I don't have any good advice (other than to echo to call your RD), but I just wanted you to know you have my sympathy and I hope this flare is very short-lived. Hey Link. I am sorry you are having a horrible flare. Probably the weather doing it to you. Either way still sucks.

If I were you I would take the pred taper now. It is just a short burst of pred, to help you get over this.

Oh and get someone to open your pain med bottle for you and just leave the lid on loose.

Hope you sleep better tonight and the pred helps with the pain.

Much Hugs.
Oh! And I always find icepacks really helpful...so if you have one or a bag of peas try applying it for quick but short term relief. I'll call Monday.  I have to take this pred till it's gone, right?
Gosh, I don't want to go gettin all smushy or anything, but that's so sweet how everybody answered me right away, and with such concern.  You guys are the best. It takes that long to work?  Well I'm glad it is working for you now Milly.  Gimpy, no peas, but corn is doing the trick.  Thanks for the tip.  Joonie and Wanttobe~ My pill bottles are open and in the drawer.  Learned that lesson last night.  Thanks again.I also get the occasional flare and I feel for you !
800 mg of Advil every 6 hours works great for me , maybe that would help you
until you can get ahold of your Dr on monday.
Isnt it amazing how these things happen on a Friday or weekend when
you can't call anybody?

Also you can call the pharmacy and ask questions about what medicine goes with what and how much you can take. I mean when they gave you the pred pak where you already taking the Enbrel? I know you where taking mtx then but i don't remember if you had started Enbrel yet. Probably still alright but i often call the pharmacy to get a secound opinion when ever i get a new or aditional medicine.Linnc, sorry to hear about the flare, and I agree with all the advice you have been given.  Do you have any 'big gun' pain meds for breakthrough pain?  I will be crossing my fingers that the pred will start helping get things under control.  Does your RD have an emergency number that you can call should it get worse over the weekend??Hey Linda -

Oh, sorry baby!  You just hang on (and call NOW - no need to be 'polite'.)

The whole lemon drink really cuts inflammation.  It's not a med, but it does help the body process toxins.  The original info is on www.keephopealive.org.

1. whole lemon, rind, pips and all into a blender
2. 1 tlbs extra virgin olive oil.
3. 1 cup water

Only the above ingredients are 'required'

3) couple of heaping tlbs. frozen juice concentrate for taste.  OJ is best.  I couldn't handle it so I used cherry.
4) few grains stevia to taste (shoot me - I admit I used Splenda)

Hit puree'

Strain into glass.  If neuroptahy is present, add in 1 heaping tbsp of Lecithin.

Drink.

DO NOT make a double batch - this gets UGLY bitter if left to sit.

Take 2 X a day to start.  I hate lemon and my hubby MADE me drink this when I was first diagnosed as he noticed how much LESS my swelling was.  Especially in my left ankle.

Also, have you been sick lately?  Anything that could have disrupted your gut flora?

If you go to buy some lemons - pick up some probiotics.  It might help (but probably not before Monday).

Hugs,

Pip
Oh, thanks Pip.  I actually have all the ingrediants but I don't have blender.  That's weird too, I almost bought one yesterday but I changed my mind.  Figured I didn't really need one now so I'd wait till I do.

TJ, I have vicodin.  I don't know if that's a big gun, but it's better than plain ibuprophen.

Milly, I've been taking mtx and enbrel since last April and mtx even before that.  Thanks for thinking of that though.  I did actually up the dose of mtx, but that was around Thanksgiving and I got this pred around Christmas.  So all should be well.  I'm going to go put my feet up and try to get some sleep now.  Maybe I'll see y'all late night.  Well, I guess you will all be sleeping.  Hopefully we all be.  Except our friends down under.

Miami~  That's for sure. If it's gonna go wrong, look for it to go wrong on Friday night.  Wonder why it seems to go that way.

Awww poor you Link! I sure hope you get through this flare soon...you've done so well. Linn, I don't have any better advice than you've already been given, but wanted you to know I'm thinking of you.
Hope your pred. and vicodin help for you. You are in my prayers.

Gentle hugs,
Nini

PS- I have an enormous lemon tree that has tons of huge lemons! Wish I was close to you all...we could have a "lemon drink" party!
Rats, I'm late for the bus again.  I'm sorry you were having such a bad day yesterday.  Thank goodness others here were able to give you such good advice.  It so annoys me how I seem to miss so much activity on these boards and have to play catch-up.  I guess it's the time difference, being on the east coast.  Sorry I wasn't there for you.  I would have been if I had known.  I hope today is a much better day.  What you were feeling sounded so painful and scary.  Thank goodness for the veterans around here.  Aww Linn, I am so sorry! I agree with the others, Prednisone (although I don't sleep well with it either )
I am on it now and I feel MUCH better with it. I hope you get to feeling better and that the doctor can straighten you up soon. ((HUGS))Thinking of you, linncn, hope today is better!Hi everybody!!  I  had a good sleep last night, woke up a few times but having been up all night the night before,  I fell back to sleep pretty quickly.  I took the pred early this morning, around 5.  I do feel much better and I wonder if the pred could have worked so fast?  Or maybe I'm just naturally coming to the end of the flare, or maybe it's just a lull.  All the joints that were inflammed yesterday still are, but I thinnk it's come down and their isn't near as much pain.

Thank you all again for your kind concern and good advice.   Every single one of you made a huge difference.  I hope that I can return your kindness someday.  Only for some other reason than you are in awful pain.  How about this...if I ever win a multi million dollar jack pot, I'll share??  Or, if you ever come to Michigan I will cook you dinner?

Oh Link , when i was sick and had the shakes from the really high dose pred and hadn't slept in days. I could hardly communicate. And you figured out what was wrong that i did not want to take anymore pred. and said take your pred i command you. That helped me so much. So do not worry, we all help each other. I am sure you have helped others as much as you helped me. You talked me through my really bad flare and i consider you to be a great friend. Glad you are feeling a little better. Isn't this board a life saver.

hugs
SO glad you're feeling better.  I think we all felt your pain.  It's no accident that many people wanted to "talk" you through it.  What goes around, comes around and you've been so supportive and helpful to many here and they just wanted to return in kind.  So, no thanks necessary.
