Fosamax & osteonecrosis | Arthritis Information

I was reading the article below.

The use of FOSAMAX® has been linked to osteonecrosis of the jaw. In this illness, the jaw bone decays and becomes exposed, resulting in jaw pain and tooth loss. In advanced cases, the jaw deteriorates completely. At present, there is no cure for this condition, although oral rinses and antibiotics may be useful in controlling inflammation and pain (J Oral Maxillofac Surg., 2005 Nov; 63(11): 1567–75).

Has anyone heard of this.  I am presently taking fosamax and it is helping my bone loss I hate to have to stop taking this med for this reason.  My jaws already crunch and hurt off and on.  Anyone have this and if so what did you do?  HELP!!!
hi  your2smart This is a very scary possible side effect and I refuse to take those bisphosphonates. Better off trying the natural way (5000D, K2,Magnesium, B12 and calcium) eat an alkaline diet and exersice. . marianne19522010-05-20 15:23:10Fosamax belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphonates. It can cause some side effects such as weakness, diarrhea, gas, nausea, dizziness, and mild heartburn.
