Can anyone tell me what med the RD's usually prescribe after MTX with Plaquenil fails to work on RA? possibly remicade???  but who knows this will be between you and your dr.   i also can no longer take plaquenil and mtx.  one makes me blind, the other makes me sick     wonderwomanHi lisa.....I never took plaq.  I started on mtx and when that didn't work real well, I started enbrel along with it.   My guess (keyword: guess) is that plac would be swapped for one of the bios, probably enbrel or humira.

Are you facing a med change now?  How are ya doing?

or maybe arava? I'm just guessing....

There is arava, doctors today seem to want to go streight to the biologics like remicade.  But if you want to try a pill first, arava is good.

To keep liver problems down with arava it is good to not drink, smoke etc. anything that plays with the liver.
[QUOTE=Linncn]Hi lisa.....I never took plaq.  I started on mtx and when that didn't work real well, I started enbrel along with it.   My guess (keyword: guess) is that plac would be swapped for one of the bios, probably enbrel or humira.  I know this is a very inconvenient time for this to be going on.  I read your posts about the foster care and getting ready for that.  Someone mentioned Arava, maybe your Rd will just add that.  My RD gave me the option of adding arava to my enbrel and mtx, but I passed.  Could be something for you to consider.

Do you have any idea the age range of the children you'll foster?    It'd be hard to have litttle ones with a bad flare.  Hope you can get this dealt with quickly.  I'll be praying for ya.
You could ask for Minocycline if you want to maintain on a first line DMARD.

If not Arava, there's also Imuran.  I tried Arava first but the side effects were too much and now I'm on Imuran.

I never took plaquenil, but added Enbrel when mtx alone didn't work.  I think doctors all have their own preferred additions, but it is your body, so do your research as well.  Will he switch you at your next appt or just discuss the next step?  If he plans on switching you right away, I would call back and find out what he's planning so you have time to research your options.   Whatever the decision is, hope it works well for you.

Take care -
